A first for me

well, i went to work today, and the boss took me aside, and after praising me for a job well done, he mentioned (here it comes i thought) that when hair hits the collar, i have to get it cut, or tie it back. Fair enough....anyway, all day i was thinking, "o.k, o.k, ill just get the back neatend up and keep growing the rest, but geez....all that hair growing just to get most of it chopped?? No way!" then i decided to bite the bullet and try for my first time to get it in a ponytail. Which i was dreading cause i thought id look like a dork with a short ponytail. But it looks actually really good. I finally feel like a longhair in training pants. Earlier that day i was working and a customer told me i had long hair (which i don't) and he was asking me how long ive been growing etc. Maybe i inspired another to grow their hair long? Who knows. Long story short though, i have a ponytail, and it ain't bad.
Just a thanks to everyone on this board, if there wasn't this board, maybe id still have short hair. (and be miserable too. hehe)

You're very fortunate (IMO). It sounds like you have an understanding boss. At least he give you the option to tie it back. Some may not have.

P.S. Congratulations with the pony tail!

:"I finally feel like a longhair in training pants..."
Feels good, doesn't it. Ah, yes, I remember the first time I actually
'made a tail.'
Thought it would look just awful...but it actually looked great!
You will learn little *tricks* as time goes on...like:
once your hair is 'tailed' you can smooth out any little bumps or bulges
with a stroke of the hand.
Gel will become a useful tool.
Here's a tip: Once your hair is 'tailed'...gently push DOWN on the
ponytail.
This will flatten it against your neck. Some think it looks more masculine...
(Although I saw this guy dressed in boots & a fishing outfit...earrings...and a fabulously fanned out tail! He got
lots of nice compliments, too!)
Another tip" L'Oreal Liquid SPRAY Gel applied to the hairs approaching--but not quite reaching--the Tail will really help.
So, Congratulations & Good Luck!

Hi, it's sure been a very long while since I posted on this board, I think I did in February or so... in any case, my hair is about 15 inch longs now (about mid-back) and I've been growing it for a bit more than 2 and a half years. I may be rough but I considered my hair to be long only when it was possible to tie it all in a tail. I've recently dyed my hair Natural Blue-Black from Garnier Nutrisse dyes, it took 2 to dye my whole hair, considering its thickness.
I work in a warehouse, but I doubt it would be any trouble if I worked somewhere else, and I wear my hair loose all the time, tying it in a mid-height (not on the neck level, about 2 inches higher) tail when I feel like it or when it's too hot. Since pretty much all the other workers have short/buzzed hair, they sometimes try to make fun of mine, but it doesn't matter at all. My natural hair color is a mix of blonde, brown and a little red (especially highlights, all natural ones) and I might return to it later (without cutting my hair).
I wasn't so surprised that I needed to take a woman's dye because my color wasn't available with men's dyes (and also most men's dyes are specially made to cover grey hair and dont have much variety), just a comment I wanted to make about dyes...
If you want to pursue your quest for longer hair, you will have to go against a lot of comments against it, but if you truely think you want to have it, no one will be able to counter your wish. Good luck
