Knots and Tangles

Hi all,
I just refound this site after I found it several years ago when I just started to grow my hair out.
My hair has been growing out for almost three years now, but lately I have had some problems with it. One is I have these little knots in strands of it, some can be pulled out, some can't and have to be cut out. Sometimes they are far up the strand are irritating. What can be done about them?
Another is I have had bad tangles; after I get out of the shower some of the tangles look like dreads. These usually occur in the back of my head towards the neck, and take several minutes to detangle. I've tried switching shampoos, sometimes the change seems to work, but then the problem comes back.
A third is split ends. Some are at the tip, sometimes the split occurs up the strand.
I think the three are related. I live in Texas, where both the temperature and humidity are high, if that helps. Any help would be appreciated.

Never mind that the label reads "conditioner for fine hair"...Redken's Light Tamer is the best detangler I have encountered in 23+ years of recommending hair care products--and it works its wonder on the most thick, most coarse hair as well as the thinnest, most limp.

Never heard of it. Is it available in most stores?

It is available only through salons--check your Yellow Pages for a "beauty salon" that features Redken products. It retails for around $8 for an 8-ounce bottle--less expensive per ounce in larger sizes. A little (application) goes a long way...don't make the mistake of wasting product by using gobs of it for each application.
