Any longhairs from Europe?

Hi all. I'm new to the board and thought I would start with a regional question.
If there are any european longhairs or people who have spent a lot of time in that area, can you tell me how the hair environment is/was in the area you live in/visited? I'm curious as to whether having long hair is stigmatized as heavily there as it is here in the US.
Just the basic concerns really. If I travel around the many countries there, am I going to have the old women jumping to get away from the evil guy with long hair everywhere I go, the constant police harassment, or the groups of men wanting to beat me up because I'm furry?
Might sound silly to some of you, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask. =)

Hi there i'm from Spain
Here in Spain the people are very open minded maybe some people like in every other place in the world will think that you have some conection with drugs and that but mostly old people(like 1 in let's say 500) so don't worry about that, many others will think you have some connection with music(hehe they maybe think you're a flamenco guitarist that's good) but don't worry at least here in Spain you won't get any problem there are a lot of longhairs arond here, i've visited France and Germany too and they're the nicest people you can imagine.
You will find a couple of disgusting looks at you but that happens everywhere, and i hope you visit Spain i'ts a beautiful country and you are welcome!!!
Good luck in you travel

Hi!
In UK there are more and more men with long hair as the months pass. The only problems I've had are with my young nieces, who think I've gone totally mad!
There will always be those who disapprove of men who have long hair, and, sadly, people get beaten up for all sorts of reasons - or no reason at all. On the other hand there are probably some violent thugs about who have long hair themselves!
Cheers, Barry

I am not a Eouropean, but I think you can get a pretty good idea of what is "cool" in Europe by looking at their sports stars: David Bekham, Roger Federer, Tommy Haas, Xavier Malisse and a host of other people.

Lol, old people are crazy, aren't they? I used to be friends with a German guy, and he said that in general, there are actually a lot of long haired men in that country (himself included). I assume it's pretty similar everywhere else. Everywhere you go, people are going to back you, and people are going to oppose you, so don't worry. I think it's in the Middle East that you have to be concerned, but I don't think anyone will be going there anytime soon ^_^

Well,I don't know about the arab states but here in Israel, I've encountered no problems with long hair and I think people here are more accepting at least more than some parts of the USA(I've never heard about students forced to cut hair here and in my high school class there were quite a few long hairs with no problems from the teachers opposed to stories I read here about school experiences).
So, although I can understand why things can look different from across the ocean, I take proud in living in Israel , happy to live here and believe it or not,we do have long hairs here and tolerance and as advanced as any other hi-tech country.

I am not yet a longhair... am in the process of growing it out... and obviously from my user name I am in the Bad Hair stage!
I live in the UK and people have all kinds of hairstyles and I have never seen any aggro or disaproval of long hair here. If u come to the UK you wont have any problems. I'd say the same for much of Europe as most places are modern countries with modern cultures and many different hair styles... just like the US and Canada

Thanks for the responses everyone. My view of the hair situation could be skewed slightly as I live deep in the bible belt of the southern US and have seen a lot of hostility towards anyone who sports anything other than butch hair. I figure it can't be any worse than what I see right here at home anyway lol.

Hi
I am from Cyprus, we joing the EU next May. I can tell you for sure that you will not find any discirimination. There are LOTS of long hairs around especially at the 20 to 25 age group. At least in Cyprus, Greece etc there are many long hairs and a lot of people grow their hair long at least once.
BTW Jenn in the Middle East there are more long hairs than in Europe by far... !! It's actually more part of the culture there.
Have fun in Europe and don't worry about it...

Nice to know there are people here from around the area-I'm from Israel.

Look at my response to Jenn-although I don't know how much it is cultured based-I think people are affected from the "bible movies" that hollywood made...:)
I think that the percentage of long hairs here is about the same as most westren countries and as you said most of them are around the same age group you mentioned.

Hey Adi
Yeah nice to hear from other ppl in the area... I love the eastern mediterrean / middle east and as you am proud to be part of this culture. Most people have really thick and usually curly in the area so it looks good long. I am almost there... my hair is just below my lower lip now... so close... a couple more inches for the ponytail and then (hopefully) my hair will start behaving...
Mike
