Annoying hair!

I've been growing out my hair for about 12 months now. It's about medium length, down to end of nose in front, over ears on sides, and shoulder in the back. Its been treating me pretty well till a couple months ago. It's now down to the end of my nose in the front, and getting in my face, which is especially bad during the summer months (which are almost over). Kinda makes it hard to eat without getting it in my food. I am getting annoyed and tired of the hair, and I want to do something with it. I want to get dreds, but mom don't allow... she said she'd be embarassed to be seen with me if I did, how lovely. Since about June I've been using a headband, holds all the hair out of my face, and I take all the hair out of the band in the back, looks pretty cool. The bad thing is the school disallows headbands, bandanas, etc. A couple people complimented me and a lot of people asked me questions of "Whats up with growing your hair out?"
Anyways... what can I do? I want to keep it fairly long. I am looking for some type of 'different' do, hence, the dreds I want but am disallowed to have.
P.S: This is the first time I ever posted here, or even looked here for that matter, so bare with me.

First, welcome!
Second, wet it down and load it with hair spray. That's what I did while I got past the awkward phase. Worked well, despite being labeled "Helmet Head" by my friends. (grin)
Finally, good luck!

That's great! I used to play a friar on Nimue about a year ago. I got him to 41, but then I discovered the joy of grief killing. I liked the server though. The people did a good job of staying somewhat in character and most of them were friendly, whereas on mordred my screen is constantly full of pre-teen gibberish, obscenity, death threats, ect ect.
I just made a charcopy on pendragon though. Should be fun :)
Gels, and Side Parts

There are many new products on the market. Wetting and hairspraying it will work, but can be a little harsh. You might want to consider some of the new gels or mousse's available. Go to a local beauty supply store and ask about products for your issue, and give one or two a try. Some gels & mousse's may be too soft to hold your hair all day as you go about your business, but some may hold quite well.
Also, consider changing to a side part to help position the hair that's hanging in front of the face (assuming a center part here) to at least be all on one side. You could then consider, I know this may be strange for a guy, but using a combination then of some gel or hairspray and then a small barrette or tuck in a bobby pin that matches your hair color and weave it in such that it helps hold hair.
Lastly, consider learning to braid and then pin them. You could learn to braid on one side (side part) and then work it (while weaving the braid) back away from the face. When done this way, even if this little tidbit braid falls forward, it won't be in your eyeballs or tickling your nose. You could also use 2 small black scuncci bands to hold the hair to the side. This is a cool dude look; rather fashionable. Learning to do these hair "styles" early while growing out will ensure some cool looks when it's longer.

Hi Ed,
Perhaps resort for the moment to "Hair-Pins" to help keep things in place. DON'T WORRY...........it is temporary, and Hair-pins are now sold as to be practically invisable because you can match the colour of your hair with these which also have "Hair Lines" that are part of the pin. Sure, your Girl Friend would notice..........but for the most part nobody else would even detect. And even if they did..............So what! You are on a journey to reach your Long Hair Goal. I am extremely sorry that you cannot express yourself with what you desire most of all.........the "Dreds." What would happen if you just "went for it?" I mean, really, it is absolutely no threat nor harm to the World at all. We have far greater problems on our hands today than to worry about somebody who just happens to want to sport "Dreds."

Welcome Ed! I'm pretty new here myself (although I am a chick and probably don't count ^_^)

My hair is breast-length and it still gets in my food :-P So don't feel too bad!
