Should i thin my hair?

Well, I have contimplated whether or not i should grow my hair long.
It's been about 2 months since my last haircut (which was a No. 2 Shave) and my hair is so very very thick. It is about 1" long and whenever i go to the hairdressers they always comment on how think my hair is.
I am wondering if i should thin my hair with those special scissors (forgive me, i don't know the technical name)?

What about those stylists who only start thinning the hair that is about an inch away from the head, so it doesnt poke out?
They are all about the $

They don't care about the long run, or what you're trying to acheive.
They want to cut your hair in a way that you'll have to come back in 2 weeks to a month.
THEY DON'T WANT LONG HAIR! YOU DO!
Never trust a person who has scissors in their hands and chops hair off for a living!!!

I have the same problem mate (very very thick hair), but in answer to your question: NO do not thin your hair as it may help in the very short term, but once your hair grows out more, the thinned (shorter hairs will poke out very messily which is worse than just having clown hair like me). This is because those scissors just cut every so many hairs and leave the rest long, so the long will grow out nicely while the shorter ones will grow at the same rate until they poke through! Try to avoid thinning at all costs! JMO

1" and needing thinning? What is there really to thin? Perhaps (if you DO really grow it out for a couple of years) then "think" about thinning. A real Longhair knows they want their hair to grow............no contemplation for the most part even necessary. Good Luck which-ever way it goes.
!!!!!ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!!

If you want to grow your hair long, thinning your hair with thinning shears is an absolute NO! Thinning with thinning shears makes your hair hundreds of different lengths and totally screws your hair up for growing long. One inch hair is always going to be thick and uncontrolable. It is a sacrifice we make on the road to long hair. The longer thick hair gets, the more the weight of it lays it down flatter against the head. Getting to this takes patience. One universal truth about growing long hair is that the nore you screw with it, the more you screw it up. Leave it alone and let it grow. Mother nature doesn't need any help, bro! Peace!
NO!

why is it a waste?????
if it makes him happy then do it,,not everyone here wants the long hair that you do . some just want chin length and a massive undercut,,if they like it then fine let them do it, you like your long hair and no one is telling you your stupid for doing it. it realy does help on thick hair like mine ,,but i guess its not the cool thing to do,,so you can go back to playing knights and kings at the local park
he TOLD us he wants long hair

thinning it would get rid of like a third of the long hair and only looks good for a week
