Shedding phases?

Does hair typically go through shedding phases? Perhpas related to the change in weather, I've noticed I'm losing significantly more hair when I shower. Not enough to worry about it; just curious. Maybe it's the body's way of getting ready for winter?

Autumn is frequently mentioned as a time for increased 'shedding.'
In the past I noticed it happening every year.
Amazingly, since my hair got long...that cycle just stopped!
not necessarily

there are basically two 3 elements that determine the speed and phases of hair growth, sleep, vitamins (general one-a-day types), and how much sunlight you get. in the winter time, we have less sunlight, so the whole growth process slows down, including the ability to shed hair. So in the fall, when you still have ample amount of daylight, your system kind of kicks into overdrive to make up for what it won't be able to do during the winter.
It also makes some sense in that the shorter hairs (the ones that grow after all those long ones fall out) form a better insulator, with the remaining long hairs left to cover them, and capture the heat that escapes them. Sorry if that was confusing.
Anyways, hope that helps.

I remember reading somewhere that we lose more hair in tha fall.. and the reason was the weather... not sure exactly why, but there is a correlation...
I've also noticed this

but attributed it to just noticing more hairs since they are longer. It seems more than that though so maybe there is something to the theory about more hair falling out in autumn. Of course, it could be a sign that MPB has finally began affecting me! :(

I have also noticed this, and wonder if it is perhaps due to Nature itself as Nature dictates to animals during different times of the year. It is no doubt a normal thing. But,I have also noticed (for myself) that fingernails grow faster as I go through a hair growing "quicker than usual phase" which then quiets down when I assume the usual 1/2" per month. Wonder if anyone else has noticed this?

It has been mentioned on here before, the possibility that one's hair grows faster in warmer climate. I have not seen a change in my progress. My hair is still growing faster than an unruly weed in my lawn and I still have to cut my fingernails every single week.

I never thought much about it before, but I have definitely noticed something strange about how much hair I lose in the fall. I also noticed that I'm not the only one clogging the drains in the showers! (now my hall can't yell at me, haha).
Hopefully I will keep most of my hair for winter...the average temp here in winter is -10 degrees or so.

Yes it happens to me too. I have noticed an increase in shedding of hair strands which in my case causes some tangling as well due to the fact that my hair is well over three feet long. The shed strands tend to wrap around adjacent actively growing hairs causing more tangling than usual. I have it under control though by taking a little extra time grooming my hair. Absalom
