the deal with Pantene
Posted by Jude on October 21, 2003 at 00:04:46: Previous Next
I was at the complex today, and after swimming in the pool, I went to shower. And someone left a near empty bottle of Pantene "smooth" something-or-other 2 in 1. I wanted to get the chlorine out of my hair so I grabbed it and decided to try it. My hair has never felt so soft,or behaved so good. Im gonna pick up a bottle tomorrow. But what IS the deal with Pantene? Is it still bad for a persons hair? If anyone has some information about it, can you enlighten me? I never thought my hair could be this soft. Anyone use it themselves? I just need some information on WHY its "not good" for your hair? SOmething about Silica, right?

According to my stylist-neighbor, the Pantene products work great for a short while. But they contain wax which is why they seem to soften and straighten the hair. Over a short time, my neighbor has repeatedly told me, their products leave a heavy wax build up that can damage the hair. Her recommendaion (as always) is to buy from a salon even though you pay more. Tell them what you want in a product and usually some in a shop can recommend a product that will fill the bill. I, myself, have moved away from over-the-counter shampoos and contioners and find my hair looks a lot better and feels that way too. Josh

Hey thanks. I heard the same things about that wax content of Pantene. I guess it was too good to be true! Damn. Guess ill stick to my aussie and l'oreal products, which do an "o.k" job. If a product is potentially damaging, i see no need to use it, so Ill steer clear of Pantene. Thanks, but im slightly dissapointed, but you guys definitely saved me some headaches down the road.
Wait! dont give up on it!

Pantene is a great conditioner, I use (moisture renewal)it every other day and use head an shoulders ultimate clean, its good at getting the previous condtioner out, so you dont get that build up. Man whats with all this pantene bashing anyways? Its a really good conditioner.

I believe it was pantene that I used years ago. I loved it, it worked well, but smelled rather manly. I chose to use more "feminine" smelling shampoos and conditioners.

Neutrogena shampoo is designed to remove these buildups as Pantene isn't the only one that creates the problem. When you have a build up use the Neutrogena once or twice and you can go back to the Pantene if you really like the results. It'll work just like it did the first time.

I dunno about the Science behind it, but it almost seems like its engineered to make your hair feel great for 24 hours and thereafter really dry and limb.
Perhaps its a ploy so that you have to use it everyday and double your consumption of their product! *Conspiracy theorist*
Actually I use the Pantene ProV Conditioner and that works well for me, its very detangling. I steer clear of the shampoo though.

i've used if for awhile but was recently told by my stylist that it was bad for your hair. she compared it to the wax effect of a candle. It leaves a film on your hair but when it wears off, it leaves your hair dry and brittle. The film feels great and makes you think Panteen is great and then all of a sudden, your hair is feeling dry again. I've switched to Redken Professional Products.

I always found Pants to also be great on the day you use it but in the long run it can really dry my hair. I stopped using it after reccomendations from my stylist and use a kerotin based product with some fancy french name. It costs moree but you dont need to use it as often and is really great for the hair.
Good Luck

Used it for ten years. Some problem with extremely soft water yet beyond that... Available everywhere, works ok, inexpensive. Why not?
