Spiral perm

I'm working on about a years growth and was wondering what the verdict was on getting a spiral (loosely curled) perm. My hair is naturally curly in the back and on the sides but would like to have that look all over. I'm not looking for the "French Poodle" look. But something loose and in need of no comb. Has anybody out there did this and what was the pitfalls if any?

A perm is only going to last 3-4 months, I get 2 perms a year just for the waves and ease of styling. you have to condition it more and it is easier to handle. Most on here don't like any treatments to the natural hair, but the hair is dead once it leaves the head. If you have a good stylist and pay attention to your hair it will work fine. I color and perm my hair and always get people telling me how great my hair looks, I like perms.
All my best

There is a reason why most people on here are against such treatments like perms. These types of treatments can damage your hair and scalp. This depends on many factors which include: indivduals' hair reaction, how often, stress, and many other variables.
Some folks could go on with their entire lives with such treatments and be blessed with having no difficulties in the future with their hair. And there are those who may suffer reprecussions in the future.

I look at hair being dead differently. Because it's dead, it has no ability to recover from damage, so you should treat it really well. People have posted about how they did too much chemical stuff to their hair, and ended up having no choice but to cut off the damaged hair. I agree that if you have a good stylist and take his or her advice things should work out well. The types of hair people have vary greatly, but the stylist should know how much your hair type can take before getting damaged. For example, I have very fine hair, and my stylist tells me I should only blow dry on the low setting, and he'd never recommend a perm.
