lol, I have that too man, you'll have to deal with it. I put the hair behind my ears and leave the back wavey. You can wear a hat too if you like.

Jamie had a good idea. Basically during this stage I think you have to be a bit inventive and "go with the flow" as it is forever changing as it grows longer. (Almost like every day something is different.) So, don't strive for perfection yet..........it is about impossible to obtain. Hey..........if it looks "a mess" THAT can well be your hairstyle for the day! I mean. really, who's to say you didn't want it to look that way? Just put in your time and you will be well rewarded. Good luck
Get a hair cut...

Sorry that sounded like a heckler!
No Seriously... I trim after 6 months would probably give you some self confidence back, just makesure your stylist knows what you plan to acheive - ie: Shoulder length - Mid Back - Waist whatever, if you make your goals clear and you trust your stylist, this is the time to get a maintenance trim.
It wont completely remove the hassle of the arkward stage, but it can help, particularly if you've previously been used to a more "neaty and tidy" look.
Anyway it works for me... I always feel a little more human. But if you believe trimming to be counter productive then Justin's advice is first class!
It's all about perspective

My awkward phase was my hat and or bandanna phase. Just come to the realization that unlike when your hair was short, your hair has more control over itself than you do. And this is only the beginning. This is not bad, only something you have to get used to. Just don't stress over it to much. Let your hair do its thing and you do yours.
