Salon visit actually fun

Just wanted to share my recent visit to a hair salon for a consultation. I've gone 12 months with no trims. Before that I had my wife cut my hair very short with scissors and a razor for 6 years. So I was a little nervous.
I have thick, curly/wavy hair and am still smack dab in the middle of the "awkward stage!" Anyway, I went in with the notion of getting some trimmed off the back so as I could continue to grow out my layers all to one length. With everybody around me constantly saying, "cut your hair!" I expected the same from the hair salon people. Well, I must say, I really lucked out! I got this great hair stylist who listened VERY WELL. She could see I was growing out my hair, and she just had fun with it (nice to have fingers run through my hair!). I fully understand it will be awhile before I can put all my hair back in a ponytail, but she used some gel and a cool brush with really wide rubber bristles and slicked it all back...and actually gave me a small ponytail! The scissors never even came into the picture.
Now, I didn't really like how it looked (or was just in shock), but it was nice to start seeing some of the options I will have in the near future! She didn't even charge me for my time plus she sterilized the brush and GAVE it to me (so I did tip her)!
As a result, I've had a little more confidence in playing with putting my hair back and in a small ponytail. I even got my wife to show my some of the secret female ponytail tying tricks! She just may come around, yet.

Good to hear Tim, there are so many disaster stories that its nice to know that not every hairdresser visit goes badly...
The next one will involve sisscors though, so makesure you guys understand each other before things start getting trimmed. That said, I think your on good ground and have nothing to worry about.
Good Luck

I just went to the salon on Friday, and I am so glad that I did. The hairstylist I got was great, as he respected my wishes as to what I wanted done with my hair. He didn't try to pressure me into cutting my hair short, which was really cool. I told him I wanted to get an inch and a quarter cut off, and that is exactly what he did. A trim was needed really bad, my ends were totally fried and damaged (I hadn't had a trim in over 2 and a half years). He also washed my hair for no extra charge (which felt really good).
My hair looks so much better now, it is unreal! While I was there I bought the shampoo and conditioner that was used on my hair, it made my hair really soft and actually washed out very clean. Salon products really are better than the stuff you can get at the drugstore. It costs a little more, but it is worth it in the end.
After this experience, I will definatly be going into the salon every couple of months.
