Queues

I'm a woman who loves long haired men.
I'm curious if any men wear their hair in a late 18th century style queue, as was common during the Revolutionary War. That is, hair pulled back with a single braid wrapped with a dark ribbon or leather, perhaps falling to the shoulder blades area.
I saw the actor Jason Isaacs with his hair done in such a manner in the movie, "The Patriot" and it really blew me away as to how sexy it was. I'd love to see men now wearing such a hairstyle.
I've looked around and though I've seen plenty of ponytails and even braids on occasion, I've not seen a man with a true queue.
Thanks for listening.

I wear my hair pulled straight back into a braid fairly often. It hangs to the middle of my back. I'm not sure what you mean by 'wrapped by a dark ribbon' though, I usually use a scrunchie at the top and a thin black elastic at the bottom.

Well, the hair from the top elastic to the bottom elastic is totally covered in the ribbon or leather, wrapped closely and tightly, end over end in an X pattern. If there is someplace to post a picture here or perhaps to email it, I can send a close up of Jason Isaacs wearing this hair style from his role in "the Patriot", so you can see exactly what I mean. I've got several pics of him with this hairstyle. :-p

Hi Tracy
I have found that quite a few Women seem to like Long Hair on men......but naturally their choices are severely diminished because of the minority of Men having Long Hair.
Well, now that I have 11" (if I can find someone to do it) I would be happy to give this style a try and will.) Would be fun, and the longer my hair gets the better I like it. Usually I wear it in the "traditional" Tail as my 1st choice. 2nd choice is to just let it hang free. But, because I am such a free spirit, what you have talked of sounds fun. And for myself "fun" means enjoyment of being a Longhair! Hope you're day has gone well. All the best-
Justin

How well I know! Nearly all the men I work with wear what I call the "obligatory short hair uniform".

I hope you end up doing a queue and I hope you like wearing one. I've tried one myself, and they are quite practical, staying fixed until you are ready to wash again. Let us know how it turns out if you do and maybe post a picture of the results.

Hi again Tracy,
Never fear, because I am the way I am the "Queue" sounds very interesting. Alas, life is so short........and it is "fun" to try new things! My biggest hang-up is that I am camera shy, and have been all of my life. Two days ago I took (for myself anyway) the big step and had some kids take a bunch of photos of my hair which should be ready tomorrow. I am in hopes some will look good enough to post as the photos will have to be scanned and I lack that kind of equiptment. But, perhaps before too long someone can do it for me and at long last I can post my "Mug-Shot!" :-) Then perhaps the "Queue" can be tried and photographed.
I have noticed more and more attention as my hair grows longer..........NONE negative. I really do believe that perhaps many many Women like guys with Long Hair...........but the way society is today there is hardly a choice for them. In the past 6 months or so I have noted without exception a rare "Longhair" surrounded by Women. Everyone seems so happy. And, sometimes I am the object itself suddenly surrounded be strangers as I emerge from a store! And of all things they are asking me all of these questions because they want either their boyfriends or "significent others" to get rid of that "Lawn-Mower" look.
Again, with all kind wishes to you Tracy.

I have worn a queue. I liked how it looked, but I had difficulty managing the ribbon (not sure what is the correct way to secure it). So now I wear basically the same style but with a silver clasp instead of the ribbon. At least twice I have had women stop me and ask to see my hair...

Well, I can tell you how I've done it and maybe that will help. (BTW, women with queues are about as rare as men with them).
After your hair is freshly washed, pull it back
and put a band around it, preferably black, as if to make a
ponytail. After pulling it together and banding it, braid it, using the common three strand braid, then band it again at the bottom. Turn the little tail up under the second band and take a 3rd band and secure it against the braid, so that the braid is blunt on the end. Then take a dark ribbon, dull black grosgrain preferably, and tie it at the top of the braid where it is banded. You can also use a long leather strip for this, as I once saw at a RevWar reenactment. Wrap the braid with the ribbon of your choice in a tight X pattern, totally covering the braid, until both ends meet at the bottom. Tie the two ends, then work the ribbon back up the braid in the same X pattern where you tie it off at the top, with the tied end not leaving much excess. You will cut the ribbon to the appropriate length to do this depending on how long and thick your hair is. Black (and other colors) grosgrain ribbon is readily available in spools at Wal Mart and similar places, and it is available in two widths.
Hope this is useful.
