Getting rid of curls

I need help with trying to find alternative ways of getting my hair straighter. I have light brown hair with fairly tight curls. What I would usually do is blow-dry it and brush it straight down. It works. But I have been doing this for a long time, almost 7 months, that I feel my hair is started to get very dry, and especially since the temperature has dropped (hence winter) is even more of a problem. (I have had to deep-condition my hair at least once a week).
Are there any other ways to get hair straighter (naturally...with out chemical treatments)?
thanks for your help.

you can try a flat iron...i have been using one for about two years and love it man...it is great! BUT, you gotta be careful because since it uses heat, you can burn your hair i fyou don't use it correctly (which means simply keep the flat iron MOVING through your hair...don't let it sit on your hair for any time).
but that is what i've done with minimal, if any damage.
blow drying and brushing your hair will possibly produce really BIG hair. this is another reason i like the flat iron...it simply straightens your hair, with no "bigness".
good luck!

I think that if I was going to use a straight iron, my hair would look very limp and unhealthy. Do you do anything else to prevent your hair from looking like this? (i.e., giving volume at the roots)
P.S. I'll try to get a photo to post of my hair right now...

Here is an old-fashioned way of straightening hair that works really well, but it takes a long time...could be done overnight. After shampooing and conditioning, let your hair air-dry for a bit to get the heavy 'wetness' out of it, then comb all of your hair in one direction right around your head...almost as though you are using your head as a giant hair-roller, and pin it in place. Then when it feels dry, take it out and wrap in the opposite direction and pin in place...after a while it will be poker straight without the flat-iron limpness. This method works best if dried under a hood-dryer.

I use these products and my curly hair is almost straight--blow drying too. My dryer hasn't a cold setting so I hold it at arms length and brush one way then the other, etc., which also pulls the curl out. But these Matrix products do work. They're in bright orange containers. I use the shampoo and conditioner, also their deep conditioner weekly, plus their styling creme. I'm happy with the results. My hair's not quite five inches long all around. Hope this helps: Josh
