starting off to be a longhair

dear guys
i have finally made up my mind to be a longhair. am 24 yrs of age and though i have had feelings to grow my hair long since i was around 12, i could never manage to do it for some reason or the other.
however, now i am determined to grow my hair long and yes it kinda feels really good already. i must have grown it for about 3-4 months already i guess. i also have a goatee btw :p
however, the hairs are kind of curling back upwards towards their ends, only at the back and the sidelock area. this happens if i wet my hair and leave it on to dry. any special measures i need to take ?
also if anyone has any general advice on being a long haired, it would be really great if you shared your thoughts.
thanks a ton.
best regards
dv

I'm almost sure the curls at the end are just because the hair you have already isn't long enough to weight it down as it grows. Gravity basically. The curls'll most likely get lower and lower as the hair grows, so you've got nothing to worry about.
BTW, got any progress pics?

Don't worry about curling hair - often this happens at the 3-4 month stage and lasts up to about a year, when hair is constantly pushed against the collar of your clothes - every step you take, every time you move your head. Once your hair gts longer, the problem will go away.
Good luck, and happy growing.

Good for you, man! I'm 30 and about six months into growing my hair long. Like you, I've always had some reason or obstacle to growing my hair. Glad you discovered this at 24. I wish I had done this even soon. Also like you, I've wanted long hair since I was a kid. Good luck (for both of us!) :)
BTW, goatees are cool, they look good on most guys, I'd say keep it. Sideburns add a nice touch too.

Don't worry about it since the hair is still so short and lacks weight. Normal for the amount of growth you have. And advice? Just let it grow and grow..........perhaps for years without ANY trims. It will all even itself out and since you have always wanted to be a Longhair you will be very happy with the results. Good Luck and happy growing!

Good Luck DV
I started at 24 too and like you I'd wanted to do it since I was a kid. I just regret waiting so long...
Anyway, Baldie the Eagle is right, the curling at the back and sides is mostly because there isn't enough length to weight the hair down. Also that these hairs have obsticles like your shirt collar and ears which continuous push them around.
You can try blow drying it straight. I've had some limited success at controlling the back by curling the collar hair underneath itself as I dry my hair. But if you have naturally wavey hair, I'd say to avoid touching the parts that curl, I find that the more I touch my hair the more prone to curling it is, I dunno if this has something to do with static electricity or something...
Anyway good luck with the growing.

You may wish to read Bill's "On Being a Longhair". It will be well worth your time.
