what's up guys,
i'm a newbie, and just started to grow my hair out. when i was younger i had beautifully straight hair, but since then i have had a crew cut. yet, now i started growing it out after all these years and i find that it is curly: crazy curly! it is so much like an afro i can't stand it. i tried to relax it a little while ago, but nothing happened to my thick, coarse hair. my friend wants to relax it again, but i'm worried that nothing will happen again. any tips for getting that flowing straight hair i remember? i could use some tips on relaxing as well as anything else that might help. thanks.

This advice will get your hair pretty straight, but it will also risk causing long-term damage to it.
1) Get out of the shower towel dry your hair to damp.
2) blow-dry your hair to about 95% dry. This will make the curls less tight/tangled.
3) Use a spraygel or a straightening balm sparingly on your hair.
4) use a blow-drier with a comb-through attachment to straighten your hair as much as possible.
With this, you should be able to get your hair fairly straight...just watch out for rain/humidity.

Perhaps your hair is just too short now? Wait and see how it is doing when you reach the 10" mark..........then you will certainly know for sure. Gravity does wonders unless something drastic has changed in your overall makeup and how your hair grows. Good Luck and try not to worry.

What I do is after I've washed my hair I towel wrap it for 10 minutes to soak off the excessive water, then i apply the leave in conditioner and don't rinse it out. Then you can blow dry your hair with a round brush and get it straight. Remember though to keep the blow dryer at an arms distance from your hair and as your hair gets dryer lower the heat settings.

Hey, I know how you feel. Until I was about 14 I had silky smooth hair, then I hit puberty. You're gonna have to learn to accept it, it's one heckuva lot of work to keep it straight, and you will have a much longer "akward" stage (perhaps a year and half, depending on your height). But it's all worth it, cause when it's really long, I've noticed that curly-headed folk tend to get more compliments, and more girls wanting to play with the curls!!! BWUAHAHAHAAHA!!
