I'll provide the link, but please don't start a philosophical war with them. Every few months the new users of one board or the other will discover the existence of the other, and once again, much to the exasperation of the moderators of both boards, a flame war will ensue. They are into what they like just as much as we are into what we like, so please respect their space as you'd like ours to be respected, if you visit there.

out of curiosity, who here has had a buzzcut in the past, but now has long hair? (or indeed the other way round). why did u go for such a change? I had a buzz cut during the last year of school, but have been growing it since; its almost down to mid back now and is funny when i meet someone ive not met for a few years as they still think of me as having a completely shaved head!

I had a buzzcut for 14 years then decided to grow it out. I just always wanted long hair and I also wanted a change.

Have you talked to your dad about wanting to have long hair since your last post?

I had a buzz cut for much of my nine-year military career. The short hair habit persisted for ten years after I left the military. Now I have shoulder-length hair. Wearing my hair short didn't do me any harm.

I had a buzz once - about 1/4'' all over.
why did u go for such a change?
I experimented with many short hair styles (not exceeding 2'' in length) but felt comfortable in none.
Funny, i think growing it long was more exsaperation for me than a conscious choice.
As i was growing it the feelings of discontentment left and have not revistited me for a long while (yes, even during the awkward stage!).
For the first time in a long while i am happy with my image. I feel i'm finally being true to myself. :)

I onced buzzed to 1/4 inch when I was completely fed up with my hairstyle. I've also had a variety of short hairstyles, as well as longer styles such as a Mullet (*blush*... well it was in 1993/4) and an Undercutt (*still blushing*... 1995/1997).
A year ago I had a short "crop cut" about 1-1.5 inches on top and I've grown from that... why? I guess its just because I feel more myself with longer hair.
Its like that scene from the Matrix, when Neo enters the training programme and Morpheous comments that Neo's hair is different. "Residual Self Image" They called it. Well I kinda have a similiar thing... Whenever I cut my hair short I feel unconfortable with my reflection... I always sort of imagine myself with mid-length hair... so I guess that my RSI.
I still get a hangover from it now as my hair has not been this long before, I'm always surprised by how long it actually is, but I think this is a new image I can get used to.

I've had a buzzcut and I've even had a fully shaved scalp as well. Back in January of '98 I bleached my buzzcut out to blond and once the roots started growing in I had it all shaved off. Since February of '98 I've let it grow out. So, I've had it all, hairwise.
I went for the change because I've long admired how Longhair can look on a man and I'd not been in a position job-wise to grow mine as long as I wished to. Now I am, so now I have. It's now at about six years of growth and past my shoulderblades in length.

Unfortunately, I now once again have short hair. I figured on being out of the military by now but its looking more like a couple of months more. So, no more hair for now. I personally do NOT like the standard 'regulation' navy haircut and have had mine high and tight for quite a while. The regulation cut makes me look like Fred Flintstone I think just without such a big nose. I do not like going to barbers because of all the stubble left in the collar afterwards and it drives me crazy. I never liked it since it always preceded a long visit to my late grandpappy's house. Now, I simply threw away all the other attachments to the clippers and use the smallest one because I don't have to use them for a month maybe six weeks in between cuts and the shower is just around the corner. Anyways, I guess I have to put my goal of long hair on reset for just a little while longer. :( Oh, well just another opportunity to have my marine co worker go through watching it grow again and turning green with envy. Heh heh.

Got to say, this buzzboard is the most bazaar thing I've ever seen, it seems to be full of people who are really proud of the great challenge of cutting their hair really short. I must be in the minority here but I thought the challenge of GROWING your hair was much greater than the one of making yourself like a convict who has a brick in one hand ready to wrap round the head of a passing OAP?? Maybe I'm wrong.
I'll do the difficult thing and get my hair cut off that I've been growing for the past few months.... god I'm thick, who would of thought its easier to grow it than get it cut off. Glad I went to the 'buzzboard' its really opened my eyes.... I DON'T THINK.

Yeah dude, grow out your hair like a tree hugging hippy, smoke some pot and listen to rock music really really loud and then go vandalize your favorite part of town.
DO NOT stereotype others unless you like them doing the same to you.

On that board there were countless pictures of inmates that had their heads shaved. I must say, I'm scared now. Tell me that wasn't of some place in America. Is that really legal? That's just so wrong.

Ahern,
Yes it is legal. Yes, some prisons have deemed shorthair on their prisoners to be both a health measure and a security measure. Yes, it is a shame to see men forcibly shorn of their manes. But then, once being found guilty of having committed crimes against society, control over your own appearance is but one of the many personal freedoms and privileges a person loses.
And that makes for yet another argument in favor of not committing crime in the first place.

I think that it was done in cyberspace. All the shaved heads have a black line over the top of their skull, looks to be done digitally.

I visit both boards, and I am actually a short hair fan. I keep my head shaved, but that is mostly because I have male pattern baldness. The buzzboard goes through interesting changes over time. There have been times where people were really nice and supportive, but right now, there are some real nut cases over there. There is a much more calm board at the House of Wyatt. This is another short hair site that provides a board. You can find it at www.crewcut.com then click on HOW and then the board. The people there are extremely nice and civil and many are starting to grow there hair for the fun of cutting it. Yes, to each his own. I enjoy the stories here as much as the stories on those boards. Thank you to the people of this board for having such a nice place to visit.

Guys,
Chill. The short hair afficianados have their place on the Web and we've ours. Let's leave it at that. We've already been through seeing some Longhairs from here go over there and try to rain on their parade and we've also already seen some short hairs come over here and try to rain on ours. That didn't help anyone. Let's just leave them be and concentrate on what benefits us here.
