8 months growing, still frustrated

well...i'm about to 8 months without any cuts whatsoever. the bangs are to my chin, my hair is somewhat wavy...so i can't really get it into a ponytail just yet. i find i'm having problems with itchiness/flaking, if i wash my hair, and style with gel...the next day or day after my head will be itching like crazy and flaking. i've been using l'oreal melting gel, and using l'oreal curl-moisture shampoo and conditioner. just so you guys know, i mostly wear a hat to work so i don't have to fix the hair in the morning (it gets really wavy/curly with flips on the side if i don't fix it or wear a hat). and sometimes i do sweat a bit, considering the work i do requires me to go in a warehouse and get computer equipment/etc. for testing... i'm wondering if that is the cause of my itchiness/flaking, or if i should try some other shampoo/conditioner/styling product combination. i'm also wondering if the hat is slowing up the growing process somewhat. there are times when i feel like cutting it, but i really want to see it through this time. i've cut it the last three times i've tried to grow it out, and this is probably the longest it's been...so i'd like to get it at least a little below the shoulders before i decide what i'm going to do with it. sorry for the length of the post, just "venting" a little, and trying to get some advice... thanks to anyone who can offer some suggestions.

Sup?
I am currentley regrowing my hair after having cut it 5 years ago. It was short the whole time, and I just recentley started growing it back out 4 or five moths ago. This has been the cycle over the past 13 years or so. So with my experience, my advice is to:
- Wash your hair only 2-3 times a week, unless you have oily hair.
- Only use a natural organic based shampoo and conditioner such as "Natures Gate" brand. Natural brands I highley recomend. They may be more expensive but, you should wash less any way to retain your scalps natural moisture and hairs oils.
- Intermitantley use "Infusium 23" brand leave in treatment. This stuff is great and is packed with minerals and important vitamins for your hair.
I hope this helped... Let me know

I would suggest trying a different hair care product(s).
