Well discovered yet another frustrating problem. First of I dont think I ever introduced myself i'll get a picture up as soon as I can. First off ive been growing my hair for probably 16-18 months its quite long bangs are past chin and its pretty good down onto my back. My problem is recently ive noticed at the longest part in the back of my hairs theres some terrible knots. Some of them are half an inch above the tips and I just cant get them out without ripping out hair any none damaging soloutions and is this a big problem?

Knots can be a real pain in the butt. The best way to get them out is one hair at a time. This is time consuming but works well for me. Try to find the loosest individual hairs in the knot and slip them out one at a time from above the knot. If a strand will not budge do not force it but go to a nearby one that will move. This will help loosen the remaining more tightly knotted strands making it easier to slip them out as well. You may have to gently squeeze the knots between your thumb and forefinger from different angles to help soften them up a little. Also clear hair polish helps to loosen knots making it easier to slip the hairs apart. Clear hair polish sometimes called hair serum is somewhat slippery so it reduces friction between knotted strands. There are also claims that hair serum helps repair and prevent damage to your hair as well. Absalom

Sometimes you can do this by feel. If your hair is sufficiently long you can bring it to the front to work on the knots. Another method is to have a good friend sit behind you and carefully untangle the knots. Absalom

Go down to the five and dime and get a sewing implement called a seam ripper. It is roughly the shape of a pen and has a hook with a pointy end. It's great for all kinds of picky little tasks like the one you describe.
