Thoughts on a Friday Night

Here's what's running through my mind tonight.
First, a milestone of sorts - my hair is now getting in the way of eating. If I lean forward over a plate of food, my bangs will sometimes fall forward and get in my food and my mouth. Ugh. Unpleasant, I know, but it means they're getting longer.
Second, an observation. It seems to me there are two types of long-haired men. There are men who wear their hair long, taking care of it, styling it, etc. And then there are men who simply have long hair and do nothing with it.
Third, an accusation, I guess. Maybe it's just me, but I think there are some people here who one might call "hair fascists." Hair must never be cut, ever, for any reason whatsoever. Anyone who has a trim or haircut of any kind for any reason is a heretic and unworthy of living. You know who you are. Which brings me to...
Finally, a realization. I'm not so sure that what I want is "long hair." While on vacation I stopped in at BRGallagher's studio. We chatted a while. I looked at a lot of photos. It seems to me (and Bruce, you're welcome to comment with your observations) that the styles I really liked weren't necessarily LONG, just shaggy.
I'll be honest with you all. I'm not into the whole hair down to my waist thing. My brother has that. It's not for me. I don't think it looks good on me. Frankly, I don't think it looks good on him. It's not our fault, we just don't come from exceptional genes, and I think it takes an incredibly striking man to pull off that sort of long hair. (I can feel the anger rising off the fascists from item three already.)
That said, I'm still trying to make it to August, because I'm still in some latent awkward stage and even when I finally do beg someone to do SOMETHING to style this mop, I want it to be a LONG style, as long as it HAS style.
So there's my four cents for the night (inflation.) Go ahead. Flame me. Support me. Whatever. I just needed to say this publicly.

you said it both publicly and politely. for me the hair is just part of my expression of individuality and as such do not feel the need for support through numbers- and as such feel no sense of betrayal when a formeer fellow longhair gets shorn. it's a matter of choice and freedom.
personally i'm into the "grow it as long as it'll grow" thing... but that's just me. i like standing out. my choice of hair length is just one way that happens.

It is totally your choice as to how long you grow and how you style your hair. I have hair that is about 15 inches past my waist and am going for maximum length. Maximum length is not for everyone and I would recommend that you grow your hair to a length you are happy with. Absalom

I agree with you. There are a lot of unattractive men with long hair that would look more classically attractive with short hair. Let's just assume they are happy the way they are and leave them alone. They are not hurting anyone.
Yes.....there are folks that think any cutting of the hair, their's or anyone else's, is awful. You cannot tell them anything. They like to preach and not listen to anyone so discussion is hard. However, the world world be boring without them.
You should do whatever you want with your own hair and enjoy it.

I think that you mischaracterize the board by calling a few of it's members fascists. I see no one here acting fascist-like in the manner that you suppose they are.
On this board we have always maintained that you hair style/length is first and formost your own choice and we will add our 2 cents if want us to but because we have or want long hair we don't hold to the idea that everyone should have long hair (of whatever length).
There are some here who do reject the idea of getting trims but they certainly don't get "fascist" about it and I doubt that you would have any window into their minds about an idea that people who cut or even trim their hair aren't worthy to live.
I hope that you were just kidding about this mischaracterization but there is no real indication that you were, so just remember that if it was tounge in cheek, on the way to the cheek the tounge must pass over the teeth and you might bite it by mistake.
You don't have to want long hair and if you don't want it don't grow it.
If you do want long(er) hair then by all means, keep doing what you are doing, that's perfectly fine.
It doesn't really matter as it's your hair. We are here to support those who choose to grow their hair and to maybe answer some questions from experience.

I'm not a hair facist, per se, but I do think everyone sould have at least some length to their hair. At least enough length to have some dynamic character. I think people should do whatever the hell they want, but I am rather unfond of the super-short, mostly static hair that many guys seem to sport these days.
