Anyone Else Have This Problem?

As you can clearly see, I have this really strange problem. Some of you who read my posts know that I rant about this quite often. I have weird hair. On the top layer of hair, it's smooth and slightly wavy, curling at the ends. That's the nice part. The not-so nice part is the underneath layer of hair, especially on the sides. It is super fine in texture, and is very kinky and curls in tight spirals. It makes it impossible to keep my hair neat when I want to scrunch it or leave it in it's natural state. This is mainly why I straighten it, and gives me more than too much grief on occasion.
Given my hair problem, as well as my thinly structured face, I believe I do look better with shorter hair, or least when it's pulled away from my face. I honestly don't like wearing a tail, and I find it to be annoying most of the time. This could be the last straw for me keeping my hair long.
So, does anyone else have this problem with their hair? I don't know anyone else who does personally, but I wanted to hear from you all.

Haha... I forgot to mention something.
The picture in the opening post is when I had WET HAIR. It was only dried very slightly when I took this pic. My hair isn't oily like one would think, just wet.

I realize your hair is wet and NOT oily, though I must admit
that I have never seen the combination of hair types you have.
Maybe others have, but a combination of smooth towards the top with fine
curly hair underneath is something that may indeed be rare!
Perhaps you are one of those individuals who has more
of a problem with long hair than shorter hair.
A hair specialist might be able to solve this hair 'situation' for you,
otherwise your rather unique problem could require some kind of 'special treatment.'
Hope someone comes along and adds some advice to help you with this 'problem'
soon.
In the meantime, try not to let it get the best of you!

Yeah, I'm not sure if it's worth it to me anymore. I like long hair, but it's only hair to me. Long hair looks great on some people (you, for instance), but I'm beginning to believe it doesn't compliment as well as I once hoped.

Yup, I have the same thing goin' on with my hair too. Mine's a bit frizzier than yours tho, and I STILL haven't figured out how to calm that down yet.
I don't think I can be much of a help with your problem tho. For the most part, I just let my hair do it's thing. I use a little conditioner, but that doesn't do a whole lot either, other than make it easier to comb. I refuse to spend alot of time messing with my hair everyday. I just like having long hair, and I got used to it doing whatever it wanted to.
Personally, I think you look ALOT better with long hair than you did when you had short hair. And BTW, I read your 'BLOG' page... hang in there, I know where you're coming from.

I wish I could be as fine with letting my hair do its own thing, but it has began to make me feel very uncomfortable in the last month or more. Sadly, but for the better, I may get a haircut to take care of this problem. I can't seem to make it looked well groomed and to where it suits me anymore.

Evil: Try some Redkin 8 after rinse. Also, make contact with
BGallagher(spelling???) You look many times better with long hair and you have nice hair. Also do you rinse with hot water or cooler
water? That may make some difference. Hang in there, please.

For me, the hair at the sides to about 1" back from the hairline is very fine and won't ever grow long.
But I have to agree with the others who say you look better with long hair - even with it wavy. At least yours sits flat, mine just sticks out horizontally for a mile in either direction!!
Good luck!
Yes.

My hair does the exact same thing wet. I have curly hairs that go everywhere. They are on the front and sides. I either just let my hair do it's own thing, ponytail, or blow dry with a large round brush.
The large round brush "trains" it to go the way I want it to, and straightens it at the same time.
It takes time for you to learn to work with your hair as it grows.
Even when my hair is at butt length I'll probably blow dry the forehead area. I have a "cowlick" at the front, which makes the base go up before going down. I've always hated it. Blow drying is my only option to remove this and have it hang straight. It makes a heart shape at the top of my face if it isn't ponied or blow dried.

I to have the EXACT SAME hair as you. Slightly curly on the insides of the sides.
Don't get it cut just yet. I use a fine comb to comb mine down from the insides. Normally works.
Try this a few times, and try not to move your head too much while it's drying. See if it works.

Dude
I would go to a good salon, let them put long layers in your hair and start using a blow dryer, You have hair that needs to be taken care of. Only 5% have care free hair. Having a shape and using a dryer will make it hold a style and look good all day. You don't have the right facial shape for one length hair.
keep it some what long will keep you in style and learning how to manage it will keep it looking awesome. All the guys you see in print put a lot of time into their hair to make it look that good.

I already use a straightnening iron (CHI) and I usually straighten my hair in the morning. I do style it, but am wary of having layers put in. When it gets to a desirable length (like 3 or 4 more inches longer or so), I may go ahead and experiment with some different layers. Anyway, usually I straighten the underneath, then slightly straighten the top and leave it a little wavy for style. My pictures don't show this, because I haven't had any pictures taken when I do this. It's my favorite style, and think it looks pretty good when done right.
No cut would eliminate my frantic curly, kinky hair. Only straightening (blow drying or straightening iron) will take care of this problem. I'll just have to learn to accept it. I don't expect a miracle at all, only wandering if anyone else had a similar problem. Seems like some people do.
many people are worse off than you

Yes I've got the same problem too - but to be honest I haven't found a good way to tame it. Tried hundreds of styling products, different ways of styling, cutting, blowdrying and setting it but nothing works yet. I think the only thing I haven't tried in depth is oils but that's my next move.

This problem looks familiar to me. It appears that you bring it to the back to wash it and with it still wet you draw it forward to let it dry. Try keeping your hair in the same position for the entire washing and drying process rather moving it back and then forward. I used to wash my hair in the back then pull it to the front while wet to dry it and it caused much tangling and loss. Due to its extreme length (over 3 feet)I separate it while dry prior to washing it into 2 pigtails and put them in front. I then wet it down apply shampoo and rinse it keeping it in the same position. I then dry it keeping it in the same position. This reduced tangling dramatically and cut loss and breakage by about 50 percent. In a nutshell keep your hair in the same position for the entire washing and drying process and it should help.
