I just thought I'd put this up for a laugh, but it DOES underline the issues that we sometimes face.

he..he...
I noticed those emails were from 1997. I hope attitudes
have changed a bit since then.
If that pastor believes that God made man, then
how could he NOT believe that he made his hair grow to the lengths it does.
But really, do these people believe that men have naturally short hair and women have naturally long hair?
No, the length is always due to man-made scissors, etc.

This is my first time posting on this board, but I visit quite often. Only five months in to my hair growing process, I found this to be offensive. I don't really have long hair(yet, lol) and this still managed to upset me. The comment about how the wives of long haired men must be disgusted and sickened by it was uncalled for and totally false. If it is true that they don't like long haired men, it proves to be too superficial for me. I could go on about how I think the return message from the wife was probably forged and seemed a little overboard in the minister's favour, but I'll save my breath.

Oh I agree: the wife's message DOES seem FORGED. Glad we
agree on that.
What kind of wife would put her own husband down
in an email to an online minister???
Maybe he wrote it himself!

I agree, I may date a man just because he has a nice head of hair (He has to be reasonabley attractive as well, but he can be brain dead for all I care, oh and yes I am shallow)

Wow, that was great. Here is my favorite part of that page:
"He lied to you, and he lied to himself. His hair is a strain on our relationship and has forever been an obstacle for him to overcome. It will cost him family, career, and a normal sense of self esteem; one based on merit and effort rather than misplaced vanity."
The only reason that it is a strain is because their family was MAKING it a big deal! I love how she claims that it is an "obstacle", like long hair on men is some sort of health problem. And having long hair nows means that you don't have a normal sense of self esteem? A person's self esteem wouldn't be "normal" if they are getting critizied all of the time because of something like hair.
"A person can be brain dead and still grow hair. It says nothing about effort or achievement, and he knows it."
Hair length has absolutly NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING to do with achievement. If a person has an ambition to become something, then they are going to achieve it, regardless of how long their hair is. Another point I would like to make is, if hair is not important to them, and hair is "just hair", THEN WHY ARE THEY MAKING A BIG DEAL OUT OF SOMETHING THAT THEY CLAIM IS NOT IMPORTANT?
"Never once has a tomb stone read "he had long hair."
This really doesn't prove ANTHING. And never has a tombstone read, "She had the most gorgeous head of hair in the world". Or, "he could have been a success, but his hair got in the way, and caused him to be a failure."
"With value placed on hair, that far out weighs family and relationships, I should not have been surprised when he refused to cut his hair for my father's funeral, or his willingness to equate a hair cut with the loss of a limb.
Why should a person have to cut of their hair? It is THEIR body, and THEIR hair, therefore, they should not have to cut it off because some person is not going to like for the 3 hours they seem him out of the day. Does not cutting the hair somehow equal disrespect? I don't get it.
Again, if hair is not important to them, and hair is "just hair", THEN WHY ARE THEY MAKING A BIG DEAL OUT OF SOMETHING THAT THEY CLAIM IS NOT IMPORTANT?
Tomb stone? Great idea! n/t

I have seen this circulated around in a couple of places around the net, along with other literature by "E.L. Bynum". I think it's something of a joke, lashing out a Christians for their "close-mindedness", similar to http://www.rossetta.com/ .
For the non-Christians out there, please do not think that all Christians are closed-minded, arrogant, snobbish dweebs. Every movement has things it's not proud of in it's history (Catholics have the inquisition, Germans have the Holocaust, Christians have salem witch trials etc) but those do not dictate the character of all people within it, nor even the standard by which we base our beliefs.
I personally as a Christian do not claim that article as having anything to do with Christianity (if mr. Bynum would at least look at the Bible as a WHOLE).

No, I did not enjoy. As an evangelical, Bible-believing Christian, I was reminded of what Jesus said about those who strained out gnats and swallowed camels. And He went on to talk about how they tithed mint and dill and the smallest herbs available, but neglected justice, mercy and the love of God.
An incident which happened in my own church - a couple of ladies were going on at me about the length of my hair, and how it contradicted Scripture. Our pastor (also a "fundamentalist" as some may want to call him) came up at that point, and they appealed to him for support. Pastor looked at me, looked at them, and said "I wonder why those who take that verse (of Paul's) as a command against men having long hair don't also treat the next verse about women having short hair the same way". End of the matter - both ladies had short hair!

If the extreme views some fundamentalist christians have were put into practice by a society, then there would be little difference between them and the fundamentalist muslims causing so much pain and anguish today.
You only need to look back in history to confirm that.
This is more of an issue than the biblical rights and wrongs of long hair.
It is about being able to think and reason, rather than believing blindly that something is right.
True christianity is about what is written in a person's heart and not about an adherence to petty rules.
