I'd go to the show to see the opening act - Godsmack. Only one problem, it would put money into the Metallica account.
Therefore, Godsmack is losing money when it comes to me. In my opinion, Godsmack is good enought to be a headliner. They don't need Metallica.

Look, I'm not saying Godsmack is a group of extremely talented musicians. Let's face it, like most of today's bands they're talent is quite limited.
However, they do have some catchy tunes and could headline their own shows. They don't need Metallica to play in front of a large crowd.
At least they aren't Creed. Talk about a band with basically no talent. Their guitar player is the worst I've ever heard with the exception of Kurt Cobain.

Ah man, don’t go dissin' Kurt....especially coming up to his 10 year anniversary!
Who said you have to be good to be good? :)

Kurt Cobain is the best thing that happened to music since the Beatles.

I don't get Godsmack. If you like them then make sure you've heard Alice In Chains. That band were the real deal and Godsmack stole everything they could from them. Name, sound, logo, album titles, 7 track acoustic EPs. It's beyond a joke. Seriously, check them out if you can. Go buy the album Dirt. Infinately better than Godsmack could ever hope to be imho. Oh and don't knock Kurt either. I'm not the biggest Nirvana fan but he was an awesome songwriter and it's not as if the Godsmack guitarist is any great shakes...

Of all the "grunge" bands, Alice In Chains was the best - at least talent-wise. A lot of their material is well written. Jerry Cantrell is a great guitarist. Each member was very good at his instrument. It's a shame Staley died.
And yeah, they were a LOT better than Godsmack will ever be.
But Cobain and Nirvana - now that's a whole different story. If they ever made a book on "Music for Dummies", they'd have to include Nirvana's music. This is music at its lowest possible level, completely dumbed down. I can teach anyone on this board, anyone even in the third grade - even if you've never so much as touched a guitar in your life - how to play any Nirvana song in two to three hours.
That is how bad and how elementary and basic and simple their stuff was. It's almost a crime to even call it music.
And don't get me started on Gobang's voice! It may be a mean thing to say, the best thing to ever happen to rock and roll was the day he offed himself. Good riddance.
Now if we can just get rid of Creed and the other no-talents out there and get REAL music back.
Oh yeah...and bring LONG HAIR back to the music scene. Just ain't the same with guys who look like nerds up there pretending they're good musicians!
Cheers!

So who says making complex music makes it good? The real important thing is coming up with a good tune, no matter how simple or hard it is. And Nirvana did just that, with many shining examples.
I have heard plenty of bands that are extremely complex and technical, and yet many of them sound like crap.
Oh, and that was pretty rude what you said about Cobain killing himself. Even if you didn't like his music, you can still have respect for the dead, and show some sympathy for a troubled and depressed man's last stand.

First of all, if you hate them, don't see them. Hell, why even complain about it? Second, why would you see a band you "hate," especially when some of the setlist is sure to have music from an album you claim to "not tolerate?" All this is worthless commentary.
Yes, Opeth is great. I'll give you that. I should have gone to see them in New Orleans a few months back, but that was quite a drive, you see.
Iced Earth and Children of Bodom are good, but Opeth still owns you.

Metallica sucks. Opeth is very good, unfortunatly I missed them last time they came by Massachusetts.
I too will be seeing iced earth in april at the N.E.M.F.
Children of Bodom used to be good...their new album blows however. They play well live though, I saw them last december alongside the best metal band around at this time...NEVERMORE! That is all I have to say.
