Will I be able to do this?

Hello again...
I just recently started to seriously think about letting my hair grow longer, but I don't know if I can do it! I hear it can take a very long time and, since I have curly hair, that I'll have a hard time getting it long. I'm just about 20 years old and ready to commit to it should I get a strong belief that it is possible. But I didn't even think about the idea until this year, so I don't have very much hair yet. Since it takes so long, I feel like I should have started earlier in order to accomplish it before I am too much older. I also have concerns about how long I'll need to go through the "awkward phase" with my curly hair looking like an afro. I guess I just need to learn more about this, if there is anything else to know.
Thanks for the advice!

Thanks for the link. The only thing that worries me are the several times it mentions how curly hair is not as good for growing longer. Most of the people whose photos I see have straight hair, but can anyone with curly hair still do it?

Anyone can, its just a matter of making it through the awkward phase/really keeping to your roots on it. Although some hair types might be *better* it doesn't limit you at all, it might seem to take longer since your hair curls though.
You can!

Absolutely! What he means is that, with curly hair, you probably won't be able to grow it to your knees or anything like that but you can still get it to mid back or even waist if that is what you want.
I've got curly hair myself, not tight curls though, but I'm aiming for mid shoulder-blades. Should have it by the end of the year.
I don't know how tight your curls are but if it's like my hair a big tub of gel will get you through the awkward stage. Alternatively, try bandanas, hats etc. It IS worth it in the end, I wanted to give up so many times I've lost count, but that "2 week rule" is a good thing. You just stick with it and it will happen.
Good luck man!

Hey there, I am a curly haired fellow, just passed the 18 month mark this month . . .I am still exiting the akward stage.
Yes, it is tough; yes, you will get lots of flak from people about your hair, yes it takes a long time; yes, it is DEFINATELY worth it! My best friend has long hair as well (longer than mine, and it is straight). When we go out in public, I'm the one that gets compliments! I've noticed that women love to pull on the curls. . . .ah yes. . . . it is harder for curly headed folk, but the rewards are greater IMHO :)
Can you tell I'm a little biased towards curly hair?
Anyways, go for it, and remember the two week rule.
As Always,

You are young, as I am 52 and have been growing my hair for the last two years, you can do it. Grow your hair and keep it long.
