There doesn't seem to be any of you guys with long hair who like to bleach out to blonde! I've bleached my hair (and beard and 'stache) for years and get a great kick out of it - and get all good comments too. Let me know what you think guys get bleaching - go blonde while you've still got your hair!!!

I think you risk losing hair doing that.

I THINK IF YOUR THE TYPE OF PERSON WHO HAS A FATHER WHO IS BALD THAT MAY NOT BE A GOOD IDEA, I THINK BLEACHING IT BLOND WOULD ACCELERATE HAIR LOSS, THE SAME GOES FOR GUYS WHO WANT TO DYE IT (WHICH IS THE REASON I'VE NEVER DYED MY HAIR), I THINK THAT HAVING HAIR OF ANY COLOR IS BETTER THAN NOT HAVING HAIR. I PROBABLEY WILL NOT EVER TRY THIS UNLESS MAYBE THEY MAKE SOME KIND OF HAIR TREATMENT A LOT BETTER THAN NIOXIN, ROGAINE OR PROPECIA WHERE I CAN AFFORD TO TAKE RISK LIKE THIS.

Hi Merle,
I guess there's a risk with most things but using a gentle bleach is not really very harmful. I've been bleaching 'everything' for years and havn't lost anything - and my father is bald!! If you REALLY wanted to be a blonde, you would take the chance - it depends on how much you long to be a bleachman!
Any of you guys into bleaching? Get typing !!

Hey Bleachman! I have shoulder length hair, basically brown but with a lot of grey. I've been interested in going blond, but I've heard that you can't bleach grey hair. True? Thanks!

Hi Jack,
I have quite a bit of grey in my hair but when you bleach it, the brown goes blond and the grey just goes whiter. The whole effect then is a light blond with whiter strands. It looks pretty good, go for it!
It's always worth doing something at least once or you'll never know what you've missed. Use a mild bleach so that it takes a bit longer, that way you can see what's happening as it lifts the color.
Post us to let me kow how it goes.

BEEN THERE, DONE THAT, MAY TRY AN ALTERNATIVE.
I was blond from 1980 to 1990, had only a moustache which was also blond, and longish short hair. I am a natural blond, but about 12 years of age my hair turned chesnut brown. When my hair is lightened, I have to dull it down to get the red out to keep from being orange.
If I were thirty or fourty I would be blond again. But I am 66, with a little gray in my brown hair which is now shoulder length. Everyone thinks I dye my hair because it is not more gray. I am now comtemplating dying it gray -- which would be an appropriate alternative. Dying hair does not hurt it, and when my hair has been bleached and then tinted to dull it, it was fuller and stronger because that thin coating of pigments actually fills out the hair filiament.
The only draw back is that it takes time and a little money to maintain a good color.

Hi James,
Thanks for message. Actually my bleached hair feels healthier and looks better than it used to - if I can remember that far back!

My hair is dark brown and it still holds it's color and doesn't change to gray (I am 47). I like it's natural appearance and never had the wish to change it's color, if it will change to gray I will let it do.
I think bleaching the hair will cause damages. That may be not important if the hair can regrow to it's length in one or two years, but for very long hair I heard it is the death.

Hi Wolfgang,
I am around your age and have been bleaching my brown hair to light blond for quite a few years. Maybe I'm lucky but my hair is in good condition as I take care of it by conditioning thoroughly after washing it and moreso after bleaching the roots which I do every 3 to 4 weeks. It reaches to mid-back and I do have any split-ends cut off regularly. I also bleach my beard and 'stache and hey take a lot more bleaching to get them light blond.
If a long-haired guy wants to be blond then I say: go for it!

I hear you Wolfgang.
"Bleachman" is very enthusiastic about his bleaching. I'd assume it looks good on him and he has the hair of iron to pull it off with unnoticed damage. I say, "Good for him!" But it needs to be said, lest any longhair be misled, that bleaching can damage hair. Some people have appeared on here in tears after trying such things - for someone with very fine fragile hair it could be the kiss of death for it. So don't get swept away by his enthusiasm without first using that body appendage into which your mane is rooted. :-)
Not to disparage "Bleachman", who very well could be the most genuine of chaps, but I will add that the "caution light" for me tends to come on, the more of these that are present:
