Broken hairs

Hi everyone :) I hope you guy's dont mind me crashing the party being that I am a woman LOL, but HELLLLP!!! I dont know where else to turn about this problem of mine. I have waist length hair and it is in pretty good condition, for the most part i suppose, nice and shiny. I do get compliments on it as well, but here is my dilemma. My hair is VERY fine and the area i live in has "well water". I've noticed alot of broken hairs at my scalp and longer broken ones all through my entire head of hair. Isnt' it normal to have some short hairs popping out of the scalp? I mean if we all lose some 40 - 100 hairs a day, doesn't it suffice to say we would eventually have short ones popping up at the scalp? What do you guy's do about this and what do you suggest I do? Should I just hack off about four inches of hair and start over while the broken ones catch up or what? Any suggestions very much appreciated.

Check out the webs best site for long haired women for some advice... www.tlhs.org
Lots of tips on care and a message board for women like you to get advice..... Just remember that it takes years to grow what it takes seconds to cut.....
My personal preference is for one length with a blunt cut straight across the the bottom...so maybe you would like to get rid of split ends with a MINOR trim (1").
