You can send away for videos with braiding and cornrowing instructions, but it's not an easy thing to do, especially with fine, straight hair--or even thick straight hair, as far as I know. It's best for someone else to do it for you, like a professional braider. There are so many people in the African-American or Caribbean communities who can do it for very reasonable prices. Shop around and see if you can watch them work on others to see if you like the way they braid. Native African women generally do best, since they learn and practice it from girlhood and do it constantly in their homelands. The only drawback is that it can be very painful, since they tend to pull very hard--the Africans and Caribbean (including Bahamian) braiders. American hairdressers can do it just as well, if you find a good one, and may not hurt when they braid, but they might charge much more. If you do a Web search for "braids and cornrows," or "braiders," you can find listings in the search results of shops in your area. I'm happy when other people with European hair want to get African braids, cornrows and locs (dreadlocks). I love African hairstyles and wear them to promote them, along with African aesthetics--as un-African as I look. :-)
Here are some URLs I use offhand where you can order braiding-how-to videos. Very good luck to you.
www.afroworld.com (hair, hair-care products, training videos, etc.
www.khamitkinks.com/(salon in NYC--will have instruction videos, too)
