Down the list, there is a post about receding hairlines, baldness and heredity. The trait for baldness is inherited through the mother, not the father. So if you have hereditary baldness, you got it from your mom, who inherited the trait from her bald father. So there you go.

And, I might add, if the trait were passed on by only one parent, all male siblings would have the same baldness pattern when in actuality, we know that isn't the case--among brothers there can be various baldness patterns (and some may not bald at all). At best, it's a genetic crap shoot and, believe me, luck plays a major role.

But you said she got it from her father. Your post doesn't make any sense to me.

The gene that causes baldness is carried on the X chromosome. Genes located on the X chromosome are responsible for a phenomenon known as sex-linked traits. Because men only have one X cromomsome (which is always from the mother) we feel the full effects of the gene that causes baldness while women must have two versions of the appropriate gene to go bald.

Recent studies show that the "baldness gene" can be passed on from the mother's OR the father's side. The notion that it ALWAYS comes from the mother is antiquated at best.
