"Get A Haircut!!!"

Today while I was eating lunch with my friends in the school cafeteria suddenly this boy walks up to me and says: "They told me to tell you that you need to get a haircut." I didn't know the dude so I didn't even think he was talking to me at first. It kinda stunned me too. I asked him who said it but he left. I watched him and he went back over to where a bunch of juniors/seniors were and started talking to them. All of them had short hair. It really made me mad. I all the time have people telling me to get a haircut or that I need one but I usually know them. So it doesn't get to me. But I didn't even know those guys. I don't go up to people that I don't know and tell them that they should grow their hair out or that shirt is ugly (I don't even do that to people I do know). When I got home today I looked in the mirror and saw nothing wrong with my hair. I like my hair. I'm have wavy hair still in the arkward stage but it still looks better than all the shaved heads and bleached heads that are so common at my school. I think there are only 4 people with long hair in my school out of how ever many 1000 there are. There is another boy that I know that rides my bus who evidently is growing his hair out. He has wavy/curly hair in the early stages. But I think his hair looks better than a lot of others but I hear people telling him to get a hair cut or making fun of his hair. So I know it's not just my hair but long hair in general. There are a lot of things I don't like about some people but I keep it to myself unless they ask me about it. Why don't other people do the same??? I feel if that is what they like then let them do it. I like long hair so let me grow it!!!!!!!!

I got sooo much of the same crap last year, ugh. Now its not so bad at school because...I honestly dont know why, no one ever messes with me now. I guess I developed a reputation last year as someone not to mess with....unintentionally too. But that sucks, people ARE so inconsiderate about things! I guess that's why I am so brusque with people much of the time, just to spite them. This lady at my church is nagging me to cut my hair, I dont even know what to SAY, jeez. SHe said "I like my man with short, textured hair" and I wanted to say "Please, I'd rather be dead than your man". GRRRR, but anyway, just keep in the back of your head "PEOPLE SUCK"!

Let your hair grow is that's what you like. I'm tired of people telling me that your hair looks better shorter. Screw them, you only live once on this earth - you should be happy. GO FOR IT!!!

"Get a haircut" is a slur. It is the N-word for us. It is what is yelled at us from pickup trucks. It is what is said to us to say we are not wanted. It is inappropriate in a school setting.
Talk to a teacher or administrator about it if that will make you feel better, and by all means do so if you feel threatened. Courts have recently been coming down hard on school administrators who do not provide a safe school for all their students, so you have something to be a bit threatening about yourself.
Talk to the other boy who is being harassed. Support each other.
Adult support is also important. Anti-bullying groups do exist. Also don't overlook gay/transgender groups as potential allies. Their students also suffer slurs and bullying because of their identity, and they will be on your side.
Good luck man and keep it growin',
Bill

I don't know if you have noticed it yet or not, but longer hair is beginning to make a come-back.
I have seen several fashion magazine advertisements (GQ, etc.) where the male models have hair past their ears and even down to their shoulders. I passed by American Eagle and Abercrombie... and a few other stores in the mall the other day and the displays showed male models with longer hair.
So relax. You are just ahead of the trend. If they want to stay in the 90's that's up to them.
Keep on growin'!

I saw an ad in the mall last night where the guy had long hair, kind of shoulder length, Kurt Cobain looking. Forget the store(distant town). He had two women hanging on him, too. One of those places with lots of denim.
Also, sometimes the cowardly sheep comments I hear are like "he thinks he's something don't he". Does that sound like jealousy or what? Their daddy would probably spank them if they tried long hair.

Wear your hair the way *YOU* like it and don't worry about the skin heads that think any growth is too long - or those who think it's too short if it's not down your back. Both sides are showing an absurd prejudice.
As to the short haired types that started this ... just remember that in about 10 years, several of them are going to be shopping for Rogaine.

But it your hair is long enough, you might even get away with a little thinning or even a bald spot that hasn't gotten too big.
Just as if you buzzcut hair short enough you can disguise a thinning problem. Your just screwed inbetween.
By the way, I've heard that in the future, each progressive generation will be less hairy until finally humans can no longer grow hair. I've heard that the baldies are the closest to this type of human, they are more evolved. And those who keep their hair belong to a less evolved group of humans. Anyone buy into that?

Nope. The only thing that would make humans stop growing hair would be if only the hairless ones re-produced. And we all know that the ladies prefer us hairy types!

: Bald men are not more evolved than anyone else. A species must evolve together as a group. Or so the theory of natural selection goes. There would have to be environmental pressures that would determine that baldness was a beneficial adaptation. And there's nothing in today's hair-loving society to determine that.

YIKES! BACK TO THE CAVE
I've wondered why baldness hasn't been more bred out of us by now! Then you need a hat to keep warm in the winter. Also, hair seems like a mating crest or something, a sign of health or virility.
I wouldn't miss the body hair too much, though. I can't make sense out of some of that.
Patrick Stewart can make the bald thing work, but I don't think most people do it that well.

I started to get up and go over to their table and ask them if they had something to say to me but I don't need to get in any more trouble now. Also I'm only a freshman and they were seniors/juniors so that could have had something to do with the comment. Everybody has to pick on the freshman. This is actually the second time. Last week I happened to look over at where they were sitting and one of them got the attention of the others and where pointing at me. But at the time I figured their was somebody behind me. I AM going to grow my hair out. If I had cared about what other people think then I would have already cut it off and forgot about growing it. But I didn't. I feel the only reason some of family don't like it is because they want me to be normal and look normal. So it don't make them look weird or nothing. But people should have more decency than to go up to people you don't know and tell them what to do.

Then when they say something equally as stupid as the first comment like: "because you look like a girl"...etc., you have a few choice comebacks ready because people who say stupid shit like that are never prepared to actually discuss hair or the comments they say.
I have posted some comebacks on this board a little farther back. Or you can go to: http://hairreligion.com for some simple ways to reply to these shorthaired freaks who feel they have some obligation to tell you what to do.
