Women's Long Hair Salons/ ordinary ones?

Has anyone ever visited a specialist woman's long hair salon that I've heard exist ? If so were they any help at all or didn't they know or care about men's long hair ? They must have got a whole load of very useful specialist knowledge and skills, and money is money whoever's paying the bill.
Come to that has anyone ever been into ANY woman's salon ? I know I definitely will never ever go, no matter what !! LOL !!
But perhaps a woman's long hair salon might be a different place altogether....?

Oh nuts, why in tarnation not? A woman's salon is the only place that will know what to do with your long hair (and not even all salons). I go about once every 3 months for a maintainance trim. The gal there is really good and likes my hair.
I certainly wouldn't set foot in a "real" barbershop such is advocated on a certain short hair site!
Be sure to remember to NOT wear dangle earrings to the salon, they get in the way of the stylist.

I can understand you being puzzled and I take your point ! It's what I always used to believe too but I guess one personal bitter experience can stay with you for a long time.
I’m sorry to say that it makes no difference whether you go into the best women’s “up-scale ladies room (!)” going, or the worst dual-sex/ barber’s chop-shop of all time because you'll only get the one chance. A dumb employee especially a dumb busy employee is always going to be a dumb employee and to rub it in you’re then forced to pay for their stupid mistakes ! It’s why I’m never going to risk going into any woman’s salon, dual-sex salon, whatever hair-splitting term is felt necessary, ever again !! (Whose ears are we talking about here by the way ?) Obviously I definitely agree with you 101 % when you say not all women’s salons will know what to do with long hair, it's just finding the one good safe yet intelligent gal who actually listens and faithfully follows everything you say that’s the huge problem.
So the way I see it is that if someone male or female has taken the time, trouble, effort and expense to be trained in the care of long hair, not just any hair as I've heard, then they must really love it and why I’d like to find out if such specialist salons exist. Perhaps even give it a go ?
Or to put it another way if they do exist and given the option which one do you think most long haired guys would go for ?

Okay, what *is* a "woman's salon" anyway? I've traveled around the US pretty extensively, albeit mostly to large cities, and my experience has been that most styling salons these days market their services to both sexes. Yeah, I know that most salons that charge more than ten bucks for a haircut do attract (and cater to) women in much larger numbers than men, but if you still feel like you're walking into the ladies room when you get close to an upscale salon, then I'm afraid the problem is between your ears (and it ain't your hair).
I agree with one of the other posters here that the thought of ever again climbing into Lou-the-Barber's big old Theo A Koch torture chair is a far scarier prospect than anything you might find in the frilliest "beauty shop" in Springfield.

Really, it's more a function of the person wielding the scissors.
I got an awful haircut (first maintenance trim) at Toni & Guy's and paid $40-something for the privilege. Went to my old $9 barber (a lady who's been cutting for the past thousand years) and she did great.
It's more a matter of skill, I guess. Good luck finding someone good.

Personally, when having my hair worked on I'd prefer having a woman run her fingers through my hair than a man (I guess that if I was to have a shaved head I'd also prefer to have a woman shave it rather than a man).
