Okay guys and gals here is the deal.... I have decided to be a long hair as I have always wanted it but never devoted myself to it. I am like 5 months from skin bald now at about 2.5 inches all around. I AM NOT GIVING UP! IN FACT I AM CUTTING TO GROW LONG! hehe See I want all one legnth like I want it all to hang to the same lvl when it is longer and here is my delema. I had planned on waiting until it was all around shoulder legnth or at least chin level and then trimming the longer hairs to bring it all to one neat legnth but the more I realized how I would hate to cut it now even this early I started to think how horrid it would be to take tons of legnth off later to get it all even. If you think about it there is like 6 inches between the bottom of the back of your hair line to the top of yoru head! That is 6 inches i would have to cut later to even it out! I WILL NOT DO THAT. SO I am going to do the hard work at the begining while my hair is short anyway. I am going to leave the top alone and shave the back of head from ears down and trim the sides with scissors. Keep doing this until my top catches up with sides and then I will stop trimming sides and just shave back until top catches up to that. If I do this will it all generally grow out one legnth from there without trims? Or at leaste if i do need to trim it to one legnth it will only be like a half inch or so. WOW sorry for the long post I will see you all in chat tonight! at 7:30pm PST !
There is a BETTER way...

The idea of cutting off 6 in. of hair (about a year's growth) fills me with horror. However, there is a better way to get that all-one-length long haired look you want, without the drastic chopping or mushroom-headism:
Just let it grow, and be uneven, until it reaches the length you want at the back, then trim a little off the bottom every month or so, until the front catches up. For example, if you want your hair to be mid-back length, just let it grow until it's that long, then periodically trim off anything that grows past that point. The thing is to trim across the bottom only, leaving the rest of your head alone.

Hi Dustin,
Also, check out my "Can I have some advice" string. I was thinking the EXACT same thing. However, after the responses, I've decided to also not cut to even it out until it gets longer. Don't worry, pal...we're in the SAME boat! "See" ya tonight at 7:30...
