What does your family think?

I was wondering what sort of reaction guys on here get from their family.
As for me my sister was more than supportive when I decided to grow my hair long. It was really weird when my hair was actually longer than hers for a change. It was really nice to have such acceptance because some people view this as a huge change, even if it is just hair.
My mother was the exact opposite of all of this. She raised a lot of dust and informed me that people in the big city that I live in do not go around like this. News to me.
Does anyone else have mixed reactions with their family? I think it would be so much easier if my family was either neutral or supportive.

Neutral on all fronts. They figure it's my thing. Like the Randy Travis song Forever And Ever Amen said "And if it all fell out, I'd love you anyway" Or in this case "And if it grows to the floor, I'll love you anyway" PEACE!!!!!

My mom is supportive, but she says i should get slight trims more often to keep it clean. My dad is also in favor of long hair as he once had beautiful waist length hair, although he doesnt like how i push it behing my ears for some reason. And lastly, my little brother hates it and always makes fun of it, but i think thats because my whole family disaproves of his cut.

Most of my family hates it and are constanly making pranks and remarks, but its my hair, I'm old enough to decide. I won't cut it. period. My father is a bit supportive though, he just likes to make jokes about it.
For all of you afraid of your parents, relax, they give up and give in sooner than you might think.

I don't care about, what my family thinks about my hair. But my mother seems to like my hair. She said always, she wishes, she had mine hair !

My wife has always been the type to really like the "clean cut, All-American, boy-next-door" look, but she has been very supportive and helpful. She is the only opinion I care about.
As for the rest of my family.....supportive and/or neutral.

my mother--maybe once or twice--asked when
I would get my haircut (I gave NO reply, by the way)...
....NOW....NOthing....except: 'o, you can make a nice ponytail...

They do tend to give up after a few years. : )
Once they accept it and you don't have to deal with those "issues" cropping up then it's all downhill.

My family has been pretty much neutral. Now my hair is short but I'm growing it out again and when it was long it was the same way - they've always been pretty much neutral. Usually the only comment I ever get is "Wow, your hair is getting long!" That's always nice :)

i really don't know why i even bother getting upset, ignorant people like that don't deserve a response but it's like CONSTANTLY they do this
don't know WHY its such a big problem to them

The "looks like a girl" comment reminds me of the TV show "3rd Rock from the Sun". Does anyone else remember Tommy on the show and the great long hair he had? Several time they made jokes about him looking like a girl, but I think he looked great. I was very disappointed when he drastically cut it to a regular haircut.

Mother - I usually will get a mixed bag of comments from her...and depending on my mood she will usually get a mixed bag of reactions from me. I would say that, for the most part, they are just harmless little comments...but my wife has told me several times that my Mother has made comments to her while I am not around. My wife's response is, "That's who he is so you better get used to it...besides I like his long hair...and personally I would hate for him to ever get it cut." What a beautiful wife I have!!! Anyway, like I had said in my last entry...a mother's love is unconditional - so I am really not worried about this "tug of war" mother and I have been having - for almost half my life now - about the length of my hair...in fact, it's kind of fun at times. Back in the '80's when the glam-metal scene was all over the place I would point out things to my mother...In other words, she thought Jon Bon Jovi, Brett Michaels of Poison, etc. were all good looking men...Mother, look real closely at these guys..."THEY ALL HAVE LONG HAIR?!" That's how I have fun with my mother.

My father is dead, but wasn't overly keen on it when he was alive. My mother hates it, and never stops nagging me about it. Elder brother is supportive, and tells my mother to get off my back about it, since it's my own thing. Kid brother does not like it, but fortunately likes me better than he dislikes my hair!!!

My 79 year old mother hates my hair, but she doesn't comment on it anymore.
My girlfriend's 60 year old mother has not said a word to me about it, nor has her very conservative, very religious minister husband. (A good way to handle things, I think).
My sister just said, oh, you are growing your hair. Cool.
My father hit the ceiling when I grew my hair out in college. He's since passed, but he became much more forgiving as he grew older, and I don't think he say anything about it. We grew closer as we both aged.

My parents weren't wild about it at first. But now, my dad is growing HIS hair out... at sixty-one! My mom got her hair cut fairly short, and says that if it ever grows out, she's not cutting it again! They say it will hinder me from getting a good job, but that's not necessarily true, the term 'good job' being subjective. They also didn't like when I started having braids put in, but they've come to accept it. My brother is a cool redneck and doesn't mind; he said my braids make me look like Kid Rock! Friends have followed suit and grew their hair out, and the rest of my family doesn't seem to mind. I don't know what I do to have such influence on those around me, but I apparently do. I think where you live factors into how people react, too. I live in Tennessee, which has a fairly large Native American population (I'm about one-quarter Cherokee) and most people in my neck of the woods don't seem to care and/or have long hair themselves.

Well, my dad doesn't care, probably because he had hair down to his waist when he was younger. My sister makes fun of me a lot. But my mom absolutely hates it. She's always complaining about it, telling me I'll never fing a job with long hair, trying to convince me to get it cut, or telling me it's out of style. I don't know how "out of style" long hair actually is, but I don't follow trends, so that would just make me wanna grow it even more!
