You have some of the most accomplished hair on this board, so heres my case. I hear around here quiet often not to shampoo your hair too often concerning damage, and then other posts I find guys saying they shampoo their hair every day with no problems or damage. So I was wondering, over your years of progress and different stages of length, how often have you and do you shampoo. I like the look and feel of my hair after shampooing and conditioning, but due to popular advise, I only shampoo once a week if that. The shiny oily look from not shampooing is really not my thing. I like a clean clarified look that shampooing and conditioning gives, even though my thick hair gets more fuller and hard to manage afterwards. This doesn't really matter to me for the most part, cause I wear a cap a lot that helps lay my hair down over time. Also, do you personally see a problem with combing/brushing wet hair? I read here and other places that that is also damaging. But this is the only way I am able to comb/brush my hair after shampooing. Otherwise, it's like trying to strain a rock through a screen door. Thanks in advance. Peace!

" Don't wash your hair with shampoo every day. Rather cream rinse (light conditioner) every day and shampoo maybe 1-2 times a week depending on your hair type and activity level. (deep condition once every week or two).
Shampooing can dry out your hair too much but washing your hair everyday is fine (some people prefer every few days)."

The way you wrote that, it kinda makes Erik look like God. Talk about mistaking a clerk for the president of the company...

I opt for practical care. There is a lot that you can do to take care of your hair but the best way is to do things that allow you to live with your hair everyday. And you can have long hair and not have to do "that much" with it. The tips on my site are what I tend to do, they work for me.
You can wash more than once a week, even everyday if you need to, as long as you are conditioning for it (everyday). The main use hair product I use is conditioner. I haven't changed the way I do things much over the years either.
I brush my hair when it's wet after washing (conditioning). This too is easiest for me and isn't that bad for my hair if I don't go nuts and start ripping and pulling hard (long hair goes better with calm demeanor). Start at the bottom and go easy. If you want it to be even easier then put some other product in your hair when you are brushing it out (leave-in conditioner or laminate) and it can be real easy. I cannot just shampoo and then brush out, conditioning is a MUST, otherwise it's a rat's nest.
I use a large round natural bristle brush that I have learned to turn as I brush down. This seems to allow me to brush more gently and effectively. It's a bit tricky on shorter hair though, which is strange but the longer it gets the more you will appreciate it. I just saw a new product on a tv commercial that is a round type brush that rotates as you brush and supposedly doesn't ever tangle. I may need to try this out and see if it really works!
Most damage tends to come from what people do to their hair other than shampooing (unless they don't condition too). See if you are doing things in your daily life that might wreck you hair in the long-term and then do a little preventative planning. Other than that there is not much to do than to just live with your hair and get used to it as it gets longer.
I'm not the only guy here with waist-length or longer hair so they might have ideas that will work better for you but this is what works for me.

I appreciate the reply, man. Learned a lot. I condition everytime I shampoo, so I'm going to start shampooing and conditioning a little more often and see how well my hair takes it over time. Thanks again! Peace!

Great info! Thanks!
...I've been using 3 Minute Miracle just about every day instead
of shampooing...
Then I use about one inch of Secret Weapon blended throughout my damp hair...

You'll go through a lot of that stuff. I find that Aussie Moist conditioner leaves it softer and less tangled for everyday use (slicker). You'll notice that it kind of conditions your skin too. I use the the 3 Min. Miracle once or twice a week and still use the Moist after it.

..I will definitely have to try that out!
Aussie SLIP is good but it doesn't 'react' well with my hair
for some reason.
What about DewPlex?
Shampoo seems to be a major 'bad guy' in my case
so I try to keep him 'in the bottle' as much as possible.
