scalp question (regarding flakes, etc)

i for some strange reason have always seemed to have a problem with flakes and itching...i was growing my hair a while back (it was a little below my chin), and i stupidly went and got it cut off, but since then it seems that the flakiness, and itching has gotten worse. and now i'm thinking about growing it out again...i'm just wondering what can i do to reduce these flakes and the itching? right now, i wash my hair maybe 2-3 times a week, but i don't really use any one kind of shampoo consistently... would that cause a problem? should i find a good "daily" shampoo, and then have a cleansing shampoo to use maybe once a week, or something? any advice, suggestions would be appreciated!

Flakes are not unusual or something to be concerned with.
Itching is usually due to bacteria growth. Try washing everyday for awhile and make sure to condition well after shampooing. If you are in smokey enviroments or sweat a lot this seems to give the bacteria a good enviroment to grow in.
