Hi. What is the best classic rock, hard rock or heavy metal band anyone here has seen live over the years? The best I ever saw was in 1984 when I saw Van Halen with David Lee Roth. Some of my other favs, were Ted Nugent, Judas Priest, Metallica, ZZTop, Dio and Aerosmith.

Ozzy Osbourne would have to be the best shows I have ever seen...I have never missed an Ozzy concert...I go to the show every time he comes through Atlanta. I do not care for the most recent Ozzfest deals though...I am talking about the Ozzy tours after the Black Sabbath period and before the Ozzfest period.
Another good show I saw was the Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime tour...that was indeed an excellent show...they played the whole entire album...starting at the first song and going all the way through the album to the last song...all in perfect order...and the sound was just Awesome!
I'm very jealous of you because I missed the Van Halen 1984 tour, but I heard it was one of the best.

I'd have to say the final Smashing Pumpkins concert in Chicago in December of 2000... amazing.

were the two best that I've seen. Aerosmith absolutely sucked. I saw them in 1978 and I got up and walked out of their concert before it was over. It was all light show and flashes. Lead guitarist was dressed all up in his striped outfit. All he did was spin around in circles, clearly high on drugs. The music was incoherent and confused. It was totally the worst.

I really haven't been to too many live shows, but I wish I saw Judas Priest and Metallica. I'm a bit partial to Judas Priest because I like singing their stuff.

hmmm I don't know, Iced Earth sounds VERY good live but I have never actually seen them. The Scorpions show w/Deep Purple and Dio was pretty good from this summer although the Scorpions stole the show and unfortunately Deep Purple played after them so the crowd wasn't really into it by then.... ok im rambling. Yngwie Malmsteen put on a pretty good show to on the 2001 tour.
Speaking of Deep Purple

My band opened for Deep Purple for a few weeks when they reunited back in 1984-1985 for the "Perfect Strangers" album and tour. We blew them away. They ended up kicking us off the tour because we simply outperformed them every night. They were total jerks, especially Ritchie Blackmore. Talk about a boring band to see, DP is boring! Blackmore basically stood in one spot every night. I thought he was a good guitarist before that.
I still have some major ill feelings toward DP. No class at all!
We were the second band on that tour that they booted off for showing them up and just being better than them.

I would have to say DIO -- Sacred Heart was the best show I've seen. The thing that topped it off was a 30 foot high [mechanical -- but real-looking] dragon. As the show progressed, the dragon started to breath smoke. Finally, it spewed flame straight out over the audience [about 50 feet!]. You could feel the heat! In addition to that, lasers shot out of the dragon's eyes. Definitely impressive. That was only part of the fantastic show.

Best I've ever seen is Meat Loaf, this year and last. Some may laugh, they have no idea...he is unbeleivable, 54 or so and he rocks! Not at all what many have him pidgeon-holed as. His vocal range is awesome and he surrounds himself with a band of great talent.
There are some clips of this tours songs posted here-

Well I don't have the cash to see all the concerts I'd like to;however, here is a list of the best shows I've seen, shows I'd like to have seen, and shows I wish i was alive to have seen.
Best shows I've seen: Tool has to take this one. Saw them over the summer at the Great Western Forum. It is a hardcore rock experience. They elevate rock to performance art with insane visuals to go along their unique sound. Following closely would be Dave Matthews Band. I saw them recently right before Busted Stuff. I'm not too crazy about Everyday, but they are still a great band and live performers. A plus: they get some of the hottest girls at their shows.
Shows I wish I'd seen: Metallica, Gun N Roses, Sublime, and Blind Melon. Blind Melon, there are some longhairs for you. I find "No Rain" to be a very charming feel gooder, and a departure from the rest of their stuff. Does anybody know when and if Metallica will hit the road again? Are they doing the S&M concert again? Lastly, Dave Matthews when he was doing the Before These Crowded Streets tour.
Shows I wish I'd been alive to see: THE DOORS. Nothing more to say. Also, Cat Stevens. I wish he'd perform again, but I respect his religious decisions. The Guess Who, Hendrix, Zepplin, and Woodstock.
Sorry for this being so long. I'm just all over the board with my likes.

I like some of all music, but not all of any music- Luciano Pavorrotti
I saw Metallica open for Ozzy back in the early 80's and thought "These guys suck, they'll never make it." So much for my opinion.
Actually the best show I've seen (and it was free) was Limp Bizkit...the show was free. I don't really like their music too much but a buddy dragged me along, and I was impressed with the show.
Best entertainer I ever saw live: Sammy Davis Jr. Now that was a performer!
Hmmm....shows my age.
