HAS ANYBODY EVER TRIED ONE? MY STYLIST USED ONE ON ME TODAY & IT WORKED GREAT WITH HER USING IT, IT LOOKED EASY ENOUGH BUT I'VE NEVER TRIED ONE.
SHE SAID I COULD BUY HER BRAND FOR $100.I STARTED LOOKING AROUND & SAW SOME DIFFERENT BRANDS FOR ABOUT $25, BUT THE QUALITY MAY NOT BE THE SAME?IF ANYONE KNOWS ANYTHING I WOULD APPRECIATE THE INFO!

I have a little clam-shell shapped flatiron. i think it was made for laminating ID cards. It gets about as hot as a curling iron and does a fne job of straightening my ponytail

: HAS ANYBODY EVER TRIED ONE?
Hi, yes I have one and use it occasionally - they do give nice results.

She probably was using a professional iron with ceramic plates. The less expensive ones have steel plates and do not provide even heat, may fry hair easily. I have a Solano Sapphire 2.5 inch iron with the ceramic plates and a variable heat control, which I keep at the most minimum heat possible to achieve the results ~ 1-3 setting. Don't put any styling aids on your hair prior to ironing it - it causes damage due to the stuff coating your hair "cooking in!" If you do decide to get an iron, try searching ebay for Solano or Hot Tools - they both make good ones, and you can probably pick one up for 75-100.
But the key to using any heat appliance on the hair is use it sparingly and infrequently as possible. I may use my iron 1-2 times / month, and I still feel guilty!

last christmas my wife wanted a flat iron, and i got hers at ulta beauty supply. it's from hot tools, and a friend at work told her it was a good one. it ran about 30 bucks. how did the girl at the salon use it on your hair, did she move it down the hair continuously or in stages? i tried my wife's on my hair after reading some styling tips on a website, i use it to straighten the back as well as curl under. the website said to clamp the hair and turn the iron up or dowm as you run it down to create a flip or under curl, i think it looks better than curling under with a curling iron or rollers, and i don't find that it's all that damaging to my hair, but i don't worry about that as much as some others. the things i've done to my hair should've made me bald a long time ago, but here i am almost 43 and still growing strong.

About six months ago while getting a "microtrim" my stylist used a ceramic plated straightening iron on my hair. I couldn't believe the results. Shortly thereafter I purchased a ConAir metal plated iron. I use it pretty infrequently (don't want to fry my hair) but like the end results when I do use it. The ConAir was about $20; the ceramic version is over $150 [according to my stylist].
