I must cut or I lose the job

Im not joking. Two of my bosses told me to cut my hair today. I work in a grocery store. I am very sad and angry in the same time. I want to have long hair! I should cut because someone else tell me to do so? I am so ugly with short hair. I growed it in the hope that I would look better with it and be noticed by a girl. I wanted to do it while I am still young (Im 22). But now I am forced to go through the humiliation of being an ugly man.

You said in another post you were leaving to go to college in two months, and that you were going to continue growing hair (and a beard) then. It would be a shame to cut into your eight months worth of hair with your time there so short.
You didn't say how many months' growth you were thinking of cutting off, but let us assume four....
Since your hair was okay in October (after all, they didn't say anything about it then), why not offer to keep it at that length? It would not be reasonable to make it shorter than it was in September and in August and in July when it was okay longer every one of those times.
Good luck!

Invoke a reason, like religion, or sentimental values..etc.. Say that you`ll go to court, and argue unfair dismissal.

Ha ha ha ha ha! What a GREAT come-back! (Most likely it would work too.) And........they wouldn't dare argue and want to get into legal troubles. But the main issue here I rather think is ones freedom being violated. As I understand it, this is not within the law and heavens knows how the employer could ever inforce it.

Tell them you'll wear a hat, hairnet, etc...
DON'T cut, whatever you do. How long is your hair, by the way?

Dude, that sucks. It pisses me off that people can be so ignorant. Does the store you work at have a union? If so, the best thing you can do is bring it to their attention. I work at a grocery store as well, and we've got a union, so if my managers try pulling any crap like that, I know where to go. I also checked the company policies as far as appearance goes, and it says nothing about long hair on men. Have you tried anything similar? Or you could try asking the two managers how short it "needs" to be, and then asking them to find an official, written document that states that same length. If they can't, then you'd at least have something to back you up. And I know it's pretty drastic, but would you be able to find another job? I'm assuming that you're not planning on making a career out of working at a grocery store.
That's one of the reasons I want to do something big with my life. To be better off than the people who currently have "authority" over me. So that when I finally make it through veterinary school, and I'm holding down an $80thousand/year job, I can come back and ask them if they dreamed of being the manager of a grocery store when they were little. Then I could "accidentally" drop about 12 $100 bills on the floor, and say "Oops, it gets hard to keep it all in my pocket."
kEEP IT LONG, DON'T SUCCUMB!!!

LISTEN BRO, WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT CUT IT!! BELIEVE ME, # 1, YOU'LL REGRET IT CAUSE I'VE DONE IT ONCE BEFORE AND FELT ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE AFTERWARDS! ONE THING YOU HAVE TO FOCUS ON, IS NOT ALLOWING THESE SCUMS TO WIN! LIKE I'VE SAID BEFORE, IF WE ALLOW OURSELVES TO BE DISCRIMINATED AGAINST, THEN THIS WILL CONTINUE TO BE AN ONGOING ISSUE FOR GOD KNOWS HOW LONG!! THE MOST IMPORTANT THING HERE IS NOT TO LET THESE SCUMBAGS WIN!!
IF WE MUST EVER IN THE COURSE OF OUR LIVES TAKE LEGAL ACTION, SO LET IT BE! EVEN IF WE LOOSE, THERE'S NO REASON WHY WE SHOULD EVER GIVE UP...PROLONG IT FOR AS LONG AS YOU MUST, UNTIL YOU'VE WON AND GET RESULTS..FIGHT HARD, WITH DIGNITY!! BE TRUE TO YOURSELVES PEOPLE...I CANNOT STRESS THAT ENOUGH ON THIS BOARD! IF WE DO NOT STAND UP FOR OURSELVES WE WILL NEVER ACHEIVE AND WIN THIS BATTLE!!! BELIEVE ME PEOPLE WE CAN CHANGE THINGS..LOOK AT HISTORY, MANY PEOPLE HAVE DONE SO BEFORE...WILL IT BE DIFFICULT?, YES, BUT WE MUSN'T STOP, WE MUST KEEP GOING, AND NOT GIVE UP, CAUSE BELIEVE ME WE CAN DO THIS, WE CAN ACHEIVE AND BREAK THIS ICE BARRIER FOR OURSELVES!!
I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THE REST OF YOU ON THIS BOARD, BUT I'M A FIGHTER, AND WILL FIGHT THIS BATTLE IF IT EVER CROSSES MY PATH, AND I WILL FIGHT HARD, RUTHLESSLY AND UNRELENTLESSLY. I WILL ALSO FIGHT FOR ALL OF US, WE ARE ALL ONE, REMEMBER THAT!! AS EVERYONE CAN SEE BY NOW, I AM VERY PASSIONATE ABOUT THIS MATTER! IF WE ALL MAINTAIN THIS TYPE OF ATTITUDE COLLECTIVELY, WE CAN CHANGE THINGS THAT MUCH QUICKER!!!!!
Move On!

Lucky for you it is a Grocery store and there are MANY more Grocery stores to seek employment. So, actually you need not be forced to do anything to your hair............but the idiots in your present location are giving you a choice. I would myself opt for finding another job starting today. Good luck!

If women don't have to cut their hair then it's not about hair length.
If they aren't getting complaints about your hair then there is no problem.
Take a poll of the customers you service to illustrate this.
What's their problem?

If it were me I would handle it like this. I would tell them when I was hired here the length of my hair was not crucial to my employment. Nor was it told to me if my hair grew to an unacceptable length I would be told to cut it. At that time I could have made a decision as to whether i desired to be employed here or not. I keep my hair clean and neat and have no intentions of cutting it. If you chose to fire me over the length of my hair, I would inquire into weather my civil liberties were being violated, and if not I assure you I would let the local news medias know of your predjudices.

i have been in the same boat as you i am ugly with short hair and have never had a girl interested in me with short hair but when my hair was real long the girls wouldnt leave me along LOL when i was 20 i made a mistake and cut it and have been trying to get it back the same every since but it keeps getting cut wrong and messed up ARRRG!but getting there now......now about your job
Thats decrimination or how ever ya spell it LOL!there are laws against that where i live..how many women work there that have long hair?do they make them cut their hair?I had a job like that except i had long hair when i started and my store manager didnt say anything but after the big suit and tie bosses saw me for the first time they told my boss to tell me to cut it.I said no way there are plenty of jobs out there and this one isnt worth that much to me.I also mentioned a law suit.anyway I ended up with a company hat to wear instead i guess it was worth the compromise since i liked the job.
i worked there till the place went out of buisness:)and it was the only job to have a problem with my hair:)good luck

I guess again I don't get it, whats the difference of a male
having long hair and a women having long hair? Why don't I get
it? I mean I an sure they're allot of women that have long hair
in working and I will go a step further, I am sure that even at
Remi's place of work they're women there that probably have even
longer hair then he. I don't know, I guess I just don't get it!?!?

I would bring it to a lawyer.
I have told every employer (b4 I was self-employed) to try and fire me. If you allow women to have long hair you must allow men or that is Discrimination based on sex, got it? “Sexual discrimination” is illegal. The hard part is getting witness or even better, written proof you lost the job a s a result of you hair. You could own the store some day LOL.
