When I first started I used to put a paper bag on my head whenever I went to the salon. Its mostly women who visit, unless you get a haircut, which you won't.
Yes, you will get oggling, and a lot of it, but you aren't the only male customer, some even get highlights. Simply go to a salon where no one knows you.
Your hair can be straightened in 3 ways.
1. Blow drying, st. irons... don't abuse it, and it lasts nothing
2. Regular straighteners... they kill your hair, do you want to?
3. Expensive straighteners (Bio Ionic)... swell, but they cost 250+

i've used a flat iron for over a year with tremendous success....you DO have to be careful, but that hasn't been a real issue with me..it is my hair, i'm gonna be careful! but it works great for me.

Let it grow more! It will start to be more controlled once its longer and heavier. If you have wavy hair, it's for a reason - go with it! Remember you always want the opposite of what you have - people with dead straight hair seem to desperately want big curls and waves in their hair.
