...entry into the awkward stage! I'm kind of laughing over here because you haven't even gotten to the heart of the awkward stage yet! I understand, though. I'm wearing a hat every day, and I don't like it either. However, why isn't gel an option? When I've just had enough with hats, or the hat is not an option for any reason, I use Dep 10 and my hair is fine. My hair also has the waves like yours, so I know how difficult the awkward stage is. In my opinion, the easiest things to do during the awkward stage are hats and gels. Both work for me, and both are somewhat annoying to have to do everyday. So, why isn't gel an option for you, as you stated?

in short i use / have used gel and it just really agrovates me not being able to touch my hair while its gel'd.. otherwise it ends up half gel'd half wet and i cant really avoid touching my hair sometimes cuz i replace car windshields so i need to use my head.. ive been growing my hair since march time from around 1 inch long and it seems to never get any longer..

I feel your pain, my friend. I've been regrowing since July and it seems to be taking forever. I guess one positive thing we have going for us is that we have the option to wear a hat during the day (I assume you're able to wear one on the job). When I previously grew my hair out I worked for a company where you couldn't wear a hat, so you can imagine how tough it was for me to go through the awkward stage then! And, although I understand your frustration with hats and gel, as far as I know, those are the 2 easiest ways to make it through the awkward stage. Hang in there.
I forget...

...to tell you it looks good, and to ask you how long you've been growing. Although our type of hair (wavy/curly) seems more difficult in the awkward stage, it looks much better once it gets a little weight. Hang in there! :)

Instead of parting your hair try brushing it all back. That's how I wore my hair every day during the awkward stage and I never once had to resort to caps or gels. I hope that helps :)
I feel your pain...

I have the same type of hair as you do so i know how irritating it can be when it starts to dry out and turn into one big, curly puffball.
Here's what i'm currently doing throughout my awkward phase:
- Wet hair like normal.
- Use a small bit of gel (not much, just enough to help hold it's shape).
- Comb it straight back.
- Put on a baseball cap for a few hours.
The result? After a while under the cap my hair ends up straigher, far more managable and generally much better looking. I also find that washing my hair everyday isn't the best thing to do as i find that it tends to dry out my hair even worse. I'm not a fan of using gels and such myself, but it's the best way i've found to get me by durring my awkward period.
Hope this helps.

Wow, it looks like you have the same kind of hair that I do. I know that it can be a real pain during the awkward stage. But, let me tell you, when it gets long, you are going to LOVE it! What got me through was gel. Why can't you use it? For me, Dep level 8 did the trick. Once you are passed the awkward stage, you will be so glad that you toughed it out.

First off, I don't think your hair looks that bad.
But I was having the same problem not too long ago. The only thing that helped me out was that I'd been using gel in my hair for about 4 years before then, so I was used to it, even before I began to grow. Once my hair got a little longer, the gel was what started making it look funny. I found out then that my hair had started to weigh itself down. Once you get to that point, it's a lot easier, 'cause you can comb it, and usually keep it under control with your fingers. Until then, all you can do is bear with it.
This is just your hair's way of making sure you're comitted to taking care of it. It's just trying to tell you that it needs your attention and care. It's crying out to you "Please, love me, I want to grow, but I need to know that you won't forget about me up here. As long as you love me, I'll love you back." (Okay, maybe that's not what's really going on.)
