how often should you shampoo?

I wonder how often someone with long hair should shampoo. Is a couple of times a week too much, or ok?

It depends on how oily your hair looks and feels... and how much you can tolerate it. Every day or every other day would probably be fine, but remember to always use conditioner after after cleaning. You may look into Aussie Moist Shampoo/Conditioner, it's pretty good stuff.

You'll hear a lot of dirty and disgusting people tell you that they only wash their hair once every two weeks or not at all. These people are idiots and are the reason why most guys with long hair look bad (look at a lot of the people that have posted their pics on here.) Ask just about any girl and they'll tell you they wash their hair everyday.

I wash my hair once a week, and it's perfectly clean...
I really have choice in the matter, because it's very frizzy when dry. Once the natural oils build up a little bit halfway through the week, it looks alot better than when it's been washed. I'm considering washing it twice a week though, because i've been led to believe that it won't get dried out if i just use water and conditioner, without shampoo...
Leave in conditioner is the only thing i can use to beat the dryness/frizz problem, and i can't afford to be using that everyday!
problem is...

I have tried the 'just water & conditioner' routine and what happens
is BUILD UP.
You say 'so what'? Well, build up can make your hair actually L(.)(.)K UNwashed!
Clean & conditioned hair (Aussie MOIST Shampoo & MOIST Conditioner, maybe?)...
plus a bit of Natural Gel perhaps?
Your hair does not really know the difference between DIRT &
thick, sticky conditioner BUILD uP...experiment...

Well, i was thinking of doing washing once a week with Shampoo, and once without... So two washes a week in total, which hopefully would keep it looking good.
I've seen alot of people on here recommending Aussie products; are they really alot better than other brands such as l'oreal, etc? I live in the UK, so i'm not sure whether Aussie stuff would be available here(i've never seen, or even heard of it before) :/
I have tried various types of shampoo and conditioner, mainly for Dry/damaged hair, however none of them do too well... I think i might just go into one of the bigger cosmetics shops, and take a good look at all the available products. I think what's caused my hair to become so dry, and a bit damaged, is just the weather... The hair on the surface is all dry and damaged looking, yet underneath that, the hair is very smoothe, and looks perfect. The only difference between the hair in these two areas, is its exposure to the air. I've had my hair in a ponytail for most of the past year, which is probably what's resulted it the hair on the outside getting so dry :(

I don't understand why you'd purposely let your hair be dirty and go without washing it for a week or two...this doesn't make any sense to me. "It gets frizzy when i wash it". Then use conditioner, slick.

Well...OK, so I use L'Oreal (liquid) spray Gel) for emergencies
and it does the trick PLUS adds a bit of shine.
Aussie MOIST Conditioner & Aussie MOIST Shampoo are some of the best
I have ever tried--even the very expensive ones.
Their ingredients come from Australia, but the product is
made in the USA. Anyway, I've seen some from the UK (and other places)
find it. OR, how about online?
Anyway, use whatever works for you...but shampooing is not a bad thing...
as long as you put the RIGHT thing into your hair AFTER the washing...
Good Luck

I agree, because sometimes I do wash my hair every day. I used
to BELIEVE this was a BAD thing, but through experience have
discovered otherwise.
Experiment...see what's best for YOU.
Good Luck

Yes. Some people like being dirty and some don't.
