Hair growth spurts?
Posted by HappyPuppy on January 25, 2003 at 00:17:29: Previous Next
Yesterday, a girl I work with commented that my hair's "really growing fast." I thought it was just because it was poofy, 'cause I had recently washed it. But today, I noticed that after I got out of the shower, my hair seemed to be hanging lower than normal. Even now, I've got hair in my eyes. I think it might be that my hair is starting to straighten out, but I'm curious as to whether anyone here has expercienced growth spurts with their hair. It's really cool either way.

Human hair tends to grow a bit faster during the summer.
Why?

That would be the logical thing. I mean these Miami winters are tough! :)

Why does hair grow faster in summer than in winter and what about
the seasonal change is responsible i.e. the reduction in daylight
or temperature?
Yes, hair does grow faster during the summer. The trigger is
apparently the increase in daylight hours during the summer months.
Because we are exposed to more sunshine, our bodies manufacture
more Vitamin D, which is involved in making hair. So our hair grows
faster during the summer.

Interesting! I never hear anyone talk about Vitamin D supplements, only Biotin, MSM, Vitamin C and Keratin. Time to consume mass quantities of fish liver oil, fatty saltwater fish, dairy products and eggs! LOL

That's probably a good reason to grow my hair long before I move to Seattle. The Pacific Northwest isn't especially known for its great weather, but I like the rain, so it should work out.

I love the weather up there (of course, I was born in Victoria).

Have you considered that it's just your perception?
When you live with hair everyday it's easy to not pay that close of attention to it ALL the time. Hair does keep growing and can be different from week to week.
