The Poem That Says It All

Aaahhhh...the memories of my youth
It inspires me to share the truth
Remember feathered hair?
In the late 70s and early 80s you saw it everywhere
Guys, girls with hair short and long
Feathered it, layered it, oh man it was so wrong!
Looking back at the pictures I can't help but laugh out loud
For those people were so damned proud
Of a style that even then I knew looked silly as $hit
But they thought I was crazy, while the style was a big hit
Then came the mullet, the latest in hair fashion
Everyone wanted to look like a popular hockey player with a passion
Short in the front, long in the back...oh yeah, it was so cool
Could I be the only one who thought it made you look like a fool?
It was the first haircut that screamed "white trash"
It said "I live in a trailer, 'cause I'm short on cash"
But people said I was crazy, that just long all over was not nearly as nice
No one would listen though, no one took my advice
The 90s ended and the mullet went with it
Now we have the latest trend that looks like $hit
Hockey players are the past, wrestlers are no the new craze
The undercut look is now drawing praise
It's the latest statement that screams white trash, or so it is to me
It says I belong on Jerry Springer and I'm a RASSLER wannabe
So take my advice, for I've had long hair for over 25 years and I know
Silly looking styles come, and eventually they go
Do you want people in ten years to look at a picture of you
And say "dude, what's up with stupid hairdo?"
Yes, they'll laugh at the picture for a little while
And share the experience and make everyone laugh and smile
Give longhairs a good name by keeping it long and clean
Avoid the nasty white trash styles, if you know what I mean
Look and act respectful and always be polite
Help make us longhairs a pretty sight
The mullet gave longhairs a bad name
And the undercut is doing the same
Be YOURSELF, not the wrestler (RASSLER) some admire and adore
Because I've kept it long for 25 years, and plan to go 25 more!
I speak from experience, I know what I'm talking about
So believe what I say, for you have no reason to doubt!
The Poem : I like it!

That Poem touches on soooo many things that are true...
Great!
Maybe the ONLY 'STYLE' that NEVER actuall went OUT of style...
IS being a LONGHAIR...

This is very true. I also read somewhere that long hair is a style that is least susceptible to the constant changes of fashion.
Wrestling inspires undercut

Interesting perception. I too think undercuts have become too trendy a style, although I wouldn't go so far as to say that they are anywhere as repulsive as mullets are (Then again, I think Kurdt Cobain looked pretty cool, so perhaps my opinion is void 'round these parts, based on numerous postingss which speak with disdain for grunge-era hair).

Oops, a better subject would have been something like "Wrestlers inspire undercut", seeing as how very few wrestlers have hair of such a length that the could pull off an undercut look to inspire fans.

Well I agree with you on some points, I for one really don't like the mullet or the "big hair" look of the 80's... but some do and what right do any of us have to bash others for their choices? I said it before and I'll say it again, if you are so concerned over other peoples hair you need to get a life. I sure hope you didn't write this poem... if so then you really do have way too much time on your hands. If you did not, the fact that you even look up this stuff says you have an unhealthy obsession with hair. About looking back at pictures and laughing out loud... yeah alot of these hairstyles are out of style.. so if it's out of style you should get rid of it right? Well I hate to tell you but long hair isn't exactly in style right now! Going by what you wrote in your poem this means you should cut your hair because there are plenty of people at this time who find long hair on men ugly and out of style! There is a line in your poem saying you should be polite, yet you take the time to insult others who look different than you? You can talk about white trash all you want but if you ask me it's people like you that have helped give long hair a bad name.

>Well I agree with you on some points, I for one really don't like the mullet or the "big hair" look of the 80's... but some do and what right do any of us have to bash others for their choices?
The way I see it, it's your hair and I don't care if you get a mullet, a buzz cut, shave it, or an undercut. I really don't catre about you or your hair.
That being said...this board is often used by people looking for advice and learning how to deal with their hair growing out...many for the first time. I have had long hair for 25 years and I've learned that while there is no single thing that will work for everyone (styling products, shampoos, leave-ins, etc) there are single things that will really screw up your hair.
I joke and tease you about your undercut idea because I speak from experience. You're relatively new to having long hair...I'm not. I know of many people who got an undercut. They loved it fo=r about a month before realizing what a bad decision it was. Many just cut all the hair and started over again.
And here comes you...someone with very little experience with longer hair telling me I'm wrong? Uh-uh...I don't think so!
Again...as I said before...if you want the f'ing undercut go get it and quit talking about it! And he// yes...it's white trash to the bone. It's this decade's version of the god awful mullet.
>I said it before and I'll say it again, if you are so concerned over >other peoples hair you need to get a life. I sure hope you didn't >write this poem... if so then you really do have way too much time >on your hands.
I'm a creative person. I'm an experienced and published poet and songwriter. Even Bette Midler has recorded a couple of my songs. It took me all of five minutes to type that poem up. I realize it would have taken you several days, and that's why you reached your "time on hands" conclusion.
>If you did not, the fact that you even look up this stuff says you >have an unhealthy obsession with hair.
I don't have an "obsession" with hair. I just happen to be a person who has grown and maintained long air for 25 years and don't need some newbie like you telling me an undercut is a good idea when I know better. And if I can convince just one person that it's a bad idea, then I've saved someone from a bad decision that takes many months to overcome.
People come here many times to get an idea of how to manage their hair. The last thing they need is for someone to tell them getting a stupid looking undercut is a wonderful idea.
>About looking back at pictures and laughing out loud... yeah alot of >these hairstyles are out of style.. so if it's out of style you >should get rid of it right?
Styles come and go. Some styles we look at and think "what the f**k were we thinking?" The undercut is among that group. It makes longhairs look bad and is a poor reflection on us. We have enough problems already.
>Well I hate to tell you but long hair isn't exactly in style right >now!
My, my...what a brilliant observation! It never has been. Even when it was at it's popular peak it was a counter-culture thing.
DUH!
>Going by what you wrote in your poem this means you should cut your >hair because there are plenty of people at this time who find long >hair on men ugly and out of style!
Your stupidity is showing. My poem was all about NOT following styles and trends and just keeping it long. The point zoomed right over your little head! Read it again. Better yet, have someone read it to you. You obviously didn't get the point the first time around!
>There is a line in your poem saying you should be polite, yet you >take the time to insult others who look different than you? You can >talk about white trash all you want but if you ask me it's people >like you that have helped give long hair a bad name.
Actually, I'm the one you see with clean, well groomed, nice looking, healthy hair. I act professionally at work and am well respected in my field. I am polite in public and do all I can to present a positive image of men with long hair.
It's impossible to present a positive image with a mullet or an undercut. Period! Both scream trashy white boy.
Bottom line is that I speak from 25 years of experience and bucking the trends...be it big poofy hair or a mullet or an undercut. Just how long have you been growing your hair. Nuff said!

: And here comes you...someone with very little experience with longer hair telling me I'm wrong? Uh-uh...I don't think so!
No, I'm not saying you are wrong, I'm just saying you are not right. You may be experienced when it comes to hair, and you may be older than me but by the way you reply, I can tell you are a rather ignorant person.
: Again...as I said before...if you want the f'ing undercut go get it and quit talking about it! And he// yes...it's white trash to the bone. It's this decade's version of the god awful mullet.
"The f'ing undercut"... what happened to being polite? Practice what you preach!
: I'm a creative person. I'm an experienced and published poet and songwriter. Even Bette Midler has recorded a couple of my songs. It took me all of five minutes to type that poem up. I realize it would have taken you several days, and that's why you reached your "time on hands" conclusion.
Congratulations, I'm glad to hear you are a published poet/songwriter and I wish you the best of luck in the future. But the way you said it took you all of five minutes to type the poem up and that it would have taken me days.... once again it just shows your ignorance! A true poet and any well educated person would not feel the need to brag about his or her work and insult someone else.
: I don't have an "obsession" with hair. I just happen to be a person who has grown and maintained long air for 25 years and don't need some newbie like you telling me an undercut is a good idea when I know better. And if I can convince just one person that it's a bad idea, then I've saved someone from a bad decision that takes many months to overcome.
Prove it to me. Unless you have proof showing that an undercut is not a good idea I'm afraid I can't believe you!
: Styles come and go. Some styles we look at and think "what the f**k were we thinking?" The undercut is among that group. It makes longhairs look bad and is a poor reflection on us. We have enough problems already.
"what the f**ck were we thinking"??? Once again, what happened to being polite??? I still can't understand how someone with an undercut makes YOU look bad? If you walk into a public place using the colorful language you are using on this post that's what will really make you look bad!
: My, my...what a brilliant observation! It never has been. Even when it was at it's popular peak it was a counter-culture thing.
: DUH!
"DUH!"?!?!? The fact that you are older than me yet I feel like I am having an argument with a child scares me.
: Your stupidity is showing. My poem was all about NOT following styles and trends and just keeping it long. The point zoomed right over your little head! Read it again. Better yet, have someone read it to you. You obviously didn't get the point the first time around!
Look at the way you are talking to me, you have no clue how to have a civilized discussion yet you tell others to be polite? Maybe you are the one who needs to have someone read the poem to you because you obviously don't understand the meaning of some of the things you wrote.
: Actually, I'm the one you see with clean, well groomed, nice looking, healthy hair. I act professionally at work and am well respected in my field. I am polite in public and do all I can to present a positive image of men with long hair.
By the way you reply, I have a hard time believing any of this.
: It's impossible to present a positive image with a mullet or an undercut. Period! Both scream trashy white boy.
It is also impossible to present a positive image while using words like "trashy white boy".
: Bottom line is that I speak from 25 years of experience and bucking the trends...be it big poofy hair or a mullet or an undercut. Just how long have you been growing your hair. Nuff said!
Yes, when it comes to hair you are more experienced than me. However if you just came up to me on the street talking to me like you just did I would think much less of you than someone with an undercut! Well I just wanted to voice my opinion, I really don't like to argue with people as in the end it is always pointless, and much more so when it is online so I will not reply to this anymore.

As I stated in my earlier reply...it's your hair and I really don't care what you do with it.
My sarcasm is an attempt to get you to avoid making a huge mistake. But hey, it's your hair and you should do what you want.
At least you have the common sense not to get a spike cut as someone had recommended to you. I'll give ya props for that.
I just fail to see what anyone likes about an undercut. Thye look horrible. It's like the mullet and its inconsistent look. It's long, but it's short. Now we have the undercut. It's buzzed, but it's long. Both are hair "no-nos".
Do what you want. I sincerely hope you like it if you get it. Experience tells me you won't.
Remember Treyn? He used to post here. He grew his hair out, got the undercut, loved it, a month later hated it, couldn't overcome the damage the undercut did, and ended up cutting it all off and is starting over again. I just don't want to see anyone else make that mistake. An undercut is like a buzz...once done it can't be undone and it'll take a long, long time to get over it.
Not to mention most people see it as the replacement to the mullet. Both look like crap. Granted that's an opinion, but I believe most true longhairs feel the same way. Either have long hair or don't, and an undercut is a "don't".

Hey SixStringThing you don't need to pay any attention to the ranting
above. This isn't really about undercuts. What's happened is Rokker
has appointed himself lord and god almighty of all longhairs and now
that you have the nerve to think for yourself and want your hair the
way you want it instead of prostating yourself and kissing his ring,
foot or what ever, its got him all bent out of shape.
First, if you have a moderate undercut (not an extreme one) you DO NOT
have to cut all your hair to grow it out. That is just ridiculous.
Second, I am a civil engineer, which is a pretty conservative profession,
and I have an undercut (which I LOVE and have for TWO YEARS) and nobody
has ever mentioned trailer trash, white trash or whatever until rokker
came along. He must be smoking something with all these muscicians
he's bragging about knowing.
A moderate undercut only effects about 15% of your hair surface and
most of that is just the short curly frizzy hair that never gets long
anyway.

Pay up! I live in a five bedroom, three bath house with a living room, a family room, and a home theater. It's roughly 4,000 square feet.
I'm in the midwest, so I'm exposed to enough trailer trash to know what I'm talking about.
