I'm going to cut my hair

I have decided that I want to cut my hair (16 months of growth) I'm going to wait until spring break though (not sure when that will be for me exactly but around march 10)and if I still have the desire to cut it, it's gone! So uhmm.. that's it, I'll post an update during Spring Break.

Any particular event occur that made you want to cut??? Or do you want something changed in your life and you feel this may be the quickest route to "change"? Definitely think about it. I mean, it IS just hair, but 16 months is a lot of work and growth. THink of the reasons why you want it clipped, post them here, and maybe we can just all have a good discussion about it. Heck, we may even SUGGEST cutting your hair depending on your situation and what you want. Anyway, why exactly to do wanna clip your hair? :)

Nope no particular event, I've just never liked my hair (very thick, frizzy, curly) I still prefer long hair over short hair (although I don't mind short hair) but my overall appearance is much more important than just being able to say "hey i've got long hair". Also, b/c of my facial features and shape I feel (and have been told) I look much better with short hair, which goes back to my appearance. I've always thought about cutting it but never did, I would see someone that looked good with long hair and think wow that guy looks awesome I shouldn't cut my hair! Then I realized, I'm not these guys, just because they look good with long hair does not mean I do and I have always believed in doing everything you can to look your best. Also all this time I only noticed the guys that looked good with long hair, and completely ignored all the ones that looked bad. So I guess you could say the reason I want to cut my hair is to look my best. Yea it sucks that I can't have nice long hair, but oh well it's not the end of the world.

I know how you feel. My hair isn't the greatest either. Thick, wavy, frizzy, and so on. But I'm determined to stick with it. I keep thinking when it gets longer it will look better. I hope it does, but even if it doesn't I don't think I will cut it. It's become too much a part of who I am. So, I'll have bad hair but atleast it'll be long. LOL But anyway, you really should give it ALOT of thought. What usually gets me through the urge to cut is looking at pics of guys with long hair, and thinking about how long mine WILL be. Anyway, the choice is your, it's YOUR hair. BUT, think about it.

How short do you intend to cut it? I wouldn't suggest having it all shaved short, because for one thing, you'll have to put up with bad headaches for at least a week, due to the change in temperature. Perhaps you could try finding a really good stylist, and ask them to come up with a good style for you, that's perhaps just a few inches shorter than at present? It's possible that they could cut it so it looks good, but isn't "long", like what you might have originally been aiming for. Seriously though, i would think very carefully about this. Whilst hair-disasters aren't the end of the world(it grows back), you really don't want to have to regrow it again. Just know what you're doing, because you will probably get suicidal if you cut it, and then wish you hadn't :-)
As for the looking good issue, i don't think that it's a very good reason to get your hair cut. You recently had an undercut, didn't you? You said it made your hair look alot better, so what's changed within the last week or two? I always told myself "It will look better when it's longer", but i deepdown had doubts, that my hair would always look dry and damaged... However, over the past couple of months, i've really grown to love my hair! I hadn't been paying enough attention to it, so it was a bit damaged. When i started taking care of it, since xmas, it's been looking really good. I can now see, that a couple of inches extra hair, has made it look so much better. It's still quite how i would like, but i now have full faith that extra length will solve all my problems.
My point is, that length really does make it look better. If you're hair is about 8inches long, you're not in a position to know how good it will look long. Admittedly, you might be looking at another 6months(at least?) untill the extra length does seem to improve your hair, but don't give up. You can't know how it will look long, untill it's long! You're not the only guy in the world with thick, dry and frizzy hair! There's a whole load of people here, by the looks of it, with the same problem, and i'm one of them! The only way to cure that, is with length. I'm sure any hair type will look good long, no matter how bad it looks in the awkward stage.
Your hair doesn't need to look good down, if you can get it in a ponytail. There is nothing wrong with always wearing it in a ponytail, and it will solve all your problems with frizzyness! There's nothing that anyone can say to change your mind, if you really want to cut it, but i urge you to make sure you've thought this through, and that it isn't a rash decision. Allthough, with the undercut, you might be better off cuting it and starting again... It's up to you, though!

I agree with everything you said except the last sentence. This idea that
to grow out an undercut you have to cut it all off first is totally
ridiculous, unnecessary and silly. Really. I think that people that
chop off all thier hair to grow out an undercut are just freaked by
long hair and use the undercut as an excuse.

An undercut looks horrible on long hair and even worse when hair is cut short. If someone with an undercut cuts the long hair, they may as well buzz it all off. Short hair with an undercut looks terrible.
Also...if you'll go back and read the argument I had with Six String a few weeks ago, you'll notice I told him that getting an undercut was a bad idea, and that everyone I've met has regretted it and eventually cut all their hair off. He didn't believe me. He went and got an undercut, and now looks to cut all the hair off.
He may not admit it, but the undercut was the beginning of the end of his long hair. I hope people will learn from Six String, Treyn, and many others who have gone out and got an undercut and within weeks were ready to cut all their hair off.
See ya, Six String! Enjoy your short hair.

BY the way, I agree with what you said. You don't need to cut all of your hair off just because you have an undercut. The hair will eventually grow out. However, it will take YEARS to overcome the effects of the undercut, and that hair may never catch up to the rest of your air.
Undercuts are NEVER good. They don't accomplish anything at all.

BTW I have had an undercut for over two years and I love it just as
much now as when I got it. So not EVERYBODY has regretted an undercut.
If you had been paying attention to all the posts you would have
noticed that SixStringThing had started thinking short hair looked
better than long hair some time back so he was really lost before the
undercut. Treyn has tried before to have long hair but always ended
up cutting it for some reason. I think he just freaked because of the
long hair and used the undercut as an excuse.
By the time the hair on my undercut gets to be about 3/4" and when I
have it combed and tied back (which is most of the time) you can't tell
that there is an undercut unless you look real close. And if my hair
is down you can't see the undercut. So if someday I did want to grow it
out I don't think it would be any big deal.

LOL omg guy give it a rest & DON'T PUT WORDS IN MY MOUTH!!! I would definately recommend undercuts, it made my hair look & feel better... but undercut or no undercut it's still long hair and looks like crap on me. So everyone, the undercut is NOT the reason I am cutting my hair (you have two choices: believe ME speaking about MY hair, or some other guy speaking about MY hair)

Whatever. My only point was that I predicted this haircut as soon as you decided on the undercut.
See ya, fella! Enjoy the short hair. Keep in mind that if you'd skipped the undercut and just allowed it more time to grow, you have passed the bad hair stage and seen your hair get a whole lot better. Patience is a virtue, and a necessity when it comes to having long hair.
You'll have to post an "exit picture" after the cut. I'd like to see pics with your hair short and long. Maybe you do look better with short hair.

haha yes you did predict this, but I've been predicting this LONG before the undercut. If I do get it done I'll try to get a pic as soon as I can.

I believe SixString... he's seemed unhappy with his hair for a long time now, well before the undercut, and I felt he would cut sooner or later regardless of the undercut.

If you had been reading his posts he was talking about how "great"
short hair looked long before he got the undercut. Six StringThing I think
is very sensitive to what others think and with that frame of mind
nobody would have long hair. He is very image concious, which is
definitely his right, but when you are trying to conform to what is
currently the social norm long hair just doesn't fit.
I think you have to be a bit of a social rebel to be a long hair.

I plan on cutting it really short & going for a slightly spiked/messy look sort of like something you would see on a model, not really buzzed but pretty close. As far as just cutting it a bit shorter, Nah, if it's not long I don't want to have to put up with it. If i did that I might aswell just keep it long. And it's almost a month until spring break so I think that's more than enough time to think it over.

I think looking good is a very good reason. I strongly believe in the "clothes make the man" belief. There's nothing wrong with thinking otherwise it just depends on your goals/beliefs. I know as it gets longer it will look better but it will never look great. The texture will NEVER be good, I have the same hair as my father and grandfather... it's a mess. While it would look slightly better when it's longer it would still make me look rather dirty and unkept, definately not the image I want.

True, lenght = better but I can't agree that any hair type looks better longer. I have seen plenty of men & women with HIDEOUS long hair (very long) I guess it also depends on your lifestyle, if you love the hippie or rockstar look then it's all good but for me it's not.
: Your hair doesn't need to look good down, if you can get it in a ponytail. There is nothing wrong with always wearing it in a ponytail, and it will solve all your problems with frizzyness!::
I can tie it back but it looks even worse in a tail.
