For what it might be worth...

...('cause I know what some of you think about stylists--and I am one) over the past few months I have convinced more than half a dozen of my up-till-now-shaved/buzzed-heads clients to let their hair grow. Some of them are already at the four+-inches-long length and none show signs of stopping. Must admit I am having to guide them through their awkward phases but showing them what to do and how to do it (without any cutting) is working! (There are some of us stylists on your side, guys)

That's great Gallagher, i just wish there were more stylists like you.!!
I've known a stylist for about 13 years but not as a friend just through going to the salon he owns, and i must admit i wont go anywhere near his salon since i've been growing out my hair because i know he will try and talk me out of growing it.!! He'll prob say that it's not in fashion!! or you won't suit long hair or ok just let me tidy it up a little..!! Bahh i don't wana hear that crap. :¬) One thing i've learnt from all you guys is NOT to let a pair of sissors near your hair.
Half a dozen thats a good result :¬) although not for buisness.. Mmm or is it :¬)
Grale :¬)

Actually, Grale, I think in the long run it is good for business because it lets others know that I am a longhair-friendly stylist who doesn't cop the standard attitude or apply the standard remedy but instead will encourage and aid those wanting to try growing their hair to extreme (a relative term) lengths and we all know how many questions/doubts/encouragements are associated with that endeavor (hey!...just take a look at the scope of this board!!!)Whatever I can do to be a part of the solution rather than a part of the problem...

That's what i meant by the - or is it :¬) at the end of my post.
I certainly would go to a salon if i knew there was a stylist whom looked after those who wish to grow their hair long. One thing that has crossed my mind also is that women seem to get charged more for their visits to the salon, i appreciate that women have colors and treatments that men maybe wouldn't have done, but is it the fact that women usualy have long hair which costs more to style than say a man with short hair.?
So in that respect also good for buisness :¬)

Grale, ready for another "unique" aspect of my business?...it's a MEN'S grooming center; we have no female clientele. So there is no discrepancy in pricing based upon sex or long hair. Rather, our price break is made between students (from grade school through grad school) and non-students. Students pay almost half-price. As a consequence I have had a father (grad student going for a master's degree) pay less than his son who chose to enter the work force rather than attend college after high school. Similarly a longhaired student would pay less than a shorthaired guy for his appointment. I use the term "appointment" because more often than not there is no cutting involved with my longhaired clients--just an adjustment made possible by a styling aid and/or technique.

That's a very cool pricing policy and philosophy! Kudos.
