a tale of a tail

well the last time I had a haircut was january of 2000, so its been 3 years and 5 months since my last haircut, I can now officially call it "long" hair. heh up until now when people ask me about it I would just say its just a bit shaggy. anyways it seems to get tougher and tougher to let it keep growing, I just start looking more and more freakish, because the longer it gets the more it fluffs out. and then to make things worse, my appendix just burst and I had to go to the hospital, I was pretty out of it for a few days, and forget about me being able to do my usual conditioning and combing, man I could barely walk, but on the plus side several of the nurses complimented me on it, oh well. there were moments(while under the morphine) when I thought to myself, why not just shave it all off? then I wouldnt have to deal with it. luckily I was in no state to go to the barber, but I came to my senses in the end, I told myself Id go for personal record and Im stickin to it. do any of you guys get a lot of staring at times? sometimes it bugs me but Im starting to get used to it.
since Im stuck at home now Ive got a lot of time to spend online so sorry for the long post. its great to see a board like this though, keep up the good work.
Wow..

You have an uncanny resemblance to a friend of mine! He's been growing for two years and you both have identical hair. He usually get's it braided. It sucks because he's moving to Seattle in less than a month so he'll never see my dreams of longhair accomplished.
Anywho, I think you have some great hair there, dude. I'm not sure what your goals are, but it looks great. Ignore the staring. Or better yet, stare back and growl. :-D

heh, Im a quiet person, so thats probably not the best option, its kinda fun when I walk into church and people try not to stare, but I catch them all the time. also you wouldnt happen to have any pics of this lookalike would you. I keep hearing stories of people in other states who look like me but I find that hard to believe, I mean come on, look at me:)

I'm always told I look like someone.
If they don't know someone I look like they say I look like either Stevie Nicks or Cybill Shepherd. I feel flattered, but don't think I look like either. LOL

LoL.
Nah, I haven't any pics of him on me.. but his name is Anthony. You both appear to have the same skin color (he's mixed) and I'm telling you.. you both have the same kinda of wave and color in your hair. He rarely takes his hair down because he claims people will "touch it" and always wears it in a tail or braids.
And I'm not judging guys, but you aren't the ugliest person I ever seen by a LONG shot. Especially with the hair!! ;-D

I was just wondering if you are. If so, what tribe? I went to school with Cherokee indians in North Carolina. I am very fascinated with the whole culture, but the main thing that draws my interest is the male long hair that is so common place with the Native American heritage. The coolest long hair in my opinion. Peace!

First off, your hair looks great. Especially in the last two pictures.
Yes, I get lots of stares no matter how long or short my hair is. When I am with my wife (who has waist length hair) and people stare at us, I tell her I am going to give them something to stare at (like a middle finger or something).
It sounds like starring bugs you as much as it bugs me? Do I have horns growing out of my head or something? Oh well, maybe I should try to convince myself that they are starring because they think I'm good looking :)
You seem like a very nice guy so I would not worry about your hair and people starring at you.
I hope you have a speedy recovery
My ex

I love getting stared at. Why? Well I figure there are three kinds of stares, all of them good.
1) When a woman stares at me, and then smiles. Well that's great. Because that means I just met ANOTHER woman who is attracted by my long hair. And from my experience, there are a lot of those!
2) When a man stares at me, but not maliciously. Well that is because long hair is something HE wants also. But he just doesn't have the guts do it himself. So he just stares and lives vicariously through me. A hair ho-dad if you will. There are more long hair wannabes out there than you may realize. They stare out of jealousy.
3) When a person of either sex stares with obvious comtempt. Well I like this one too. First of all because without a word I get to tell this person that I am so glad that I am not like them. And secondly, at least I am not afraid to stand out from the crowd of grey people and MAKE AN IMPRESSION! To quote Avril... "Anything but ordinary, please!"
So there you have it. Staring is good. Bring it on!
Ah, the stares.

That's a good thing. I can't keep my eyes off of a man with long hair. They're beginning to realize this at work, and I'm starting to be teased. "You see something you like?!" LOL
If someone looks like they have noticed me staring, and may be upset about it, I say "you have really nice hair" so they know it's an appreciating stare they are receiving.
You're hair looks great, and it's worth the work it entails.

When it comes to comments and stares I have had more than the average load of both positive and negative ones.
I have beard and mid-back hair. I use to go lightly dressed - shorts, sandals (or bare feet) and bare arms (sleeveless shirts and/or vests) even in the middle of the winter - so that this in itself attracts comments.
I am living in Denmark in a small town some 70 km / 45 miles from Copenhagen (and I commute daily to work to Copenhagen); I am working often in Stockholm; I have family in Bucharest, Romania; my fiance lives in Hartford, Connecticut (where I will relocate in a few weeks from now). So that I am travelling quite a lot and thus I encounter a variety of opinions on my long hair.
In Copenhagen I get mostly positive comments, mainly from female employees in shops and so on. Sometimes - especially when I am out bicycling or hiking barefoot and shirtless - get the Jesus Christ comment... I get negative comments sometimes, mainly from skinheads or elderly people.
When I am in Bucharest I encounter often idiots who shout after me things like "cut your hair and get a job" or even obscenities, or are calling me gay and so on. A few years ago I was assaulted by a gang of four teenagers in the subway; one of them took a pair scissors to cut my hair, but some other passengers jumped on them. I pressed charges for attempted murder against the guy with the scissors and he got 18 months in the slammer for that.
Last year I spent a few weeks in the US - New York, Orlando and Hartford - and went on a cruise to the Bahamas with my fiance. On the cruise ship I got compliments from two women who had seen me at the swimming pool - they liked the look of my hair on my back as I came out from the pool...
In Hartford I was shouted after by three guys in a SUV - typical gang-types, with loud hip-hop music flooding the street from their car while they were driving around through the downtown area. A few hours later I watched as they were stopped after a chase by three police patrol cars and got busted when the cops found hand guns and illegal drugs on them...
In New York I visited the Empire State Building and went up to the observation platform on the 86th floor. When I took the elevator I overheard a conversation in Romanian - there was a Romanian couple with a teenage son right behind me in the line for the elevator, and they were making quite unfavourable comments on my hair and beard (including things like that I shouldn't have been allowed in the ESB, or the supposed insect fauna in my hair, or my supposed sexual preferences). They kept making those comments during the wait for the elevateor and during the upwards trip. We got separated when we arrived at the top, but after a few minutes I encountered them again in the souvenir shop, and "thanked" them for their comments (in Romanian, of course...). The only thing I regret is that I didn't take a mug shot on them after that...
Regarding my fiance, she would kill me if I would cut my hair...
