Does hair grow faster in the Summer?
Posted by Oversurf on May 27, 2003 at 16:25:20: Previous Next
Dumb question, but that's why I'm asking it anonymously :-)
Does hair grow faster in the Summer or 'warmer' months? Is this
just an old wives tale? My old wife told me this (now it's a really
good thing I'm anonymous).
If the answer is 'no,' does anyone have a time machine I could
borrow to get me to August? I'm sooo close to ponytail stage it's
driving me nuts. :-)

Nothing but nature and time effects hair growth my friend. Hair health.. that's quite different.
And why would you want a time machine to August? That's when I started growing my hair.. In about a week it will be ten months. I can get my hair in a pony, but it's only like two or a little more inches long. But give me till the end of the summer. :-D

well you're all lucky. August will be my 1 year mark. can't even come close to a pony tail. If its not a big difference by then, then it is now..its coming off.
Do you take vitamins...?

I started taking a one-a-day multi-vitamin/multi-mineral suppliment about two or so months ago and I have noticed an evident increase in my over all growth speed average. Each individual person has a pre-determined maximum hair growth speed (the most common average being a half inch a month) and if your health is not up to par or your deficient certain vitamins, then your growth can be stunted. If your not already, start taking a multi-vitamin every day and in a month or so you will probably see an increase. Hope this helps. Peace!
Thank you

I take One Source multi-vitamin/multi-mineral Adult High Potency suppliment. They have it in the health and beauty department of Wal-Mart. Very good vitamin for over-all health, man. Try it, and you won't be disappointed. Peace!

You need the time it's taking to mentally train yourself to deal with long term hair growth.

Use B-vitamins. They do make hair grow stronger and grow faster. I use them and can tell the difference; however, several friends in the hair industry all say to use B-vitamins daily if you want your hair to grow. You gotta believer here, man.

hmmmm...interesting. *decides to try just for interest sakes* I do take a multi already. But I would like to see if this works. Heck, I would only be out 4 dollars if it doesn't. And my body could use B anyway. haha. What exactly did you notice by the way?? Faster hair growth? Or just healthier hair?? This isn't the first time somebody has told us about a 'magic' vitamin....I'll try it, but count me in as a skeptic.

Yes, it does. Climate can have a great effect on hair growth.
My parents moved to Florida a couple of years ago. They both have to get haircuts almost twice as often as living up North. My hair definately grows at a faster rate in the summer. It's not just the heat...humidity is also a factor. Ask any hair professional. I've even has it confirmed my medical doctors.
By the way, did you know that your hair goes through a change every 7 years? It can change in texture, color, growth rate, etc. . (This is a medical fact.)
grow faster in the Summer? ODDly, yes!

maybe not by a whole lot...but it does.
Some say it's the extra vitamin D from the sun but...
...my PERSONAL THEORY is that in the summer...
Nature is preparing you for the winter season!

I think your theory makes a whole lot of sense. Yes! Nature is so perfect. She does it with extra coats of fur for the animals in the woods to get them ready for Winter............so, why not us..........the Human Species?

Thanks for all the advice! :-) I didn't expect to get a post
with so much activity (based on my other posts, heh heh)
To answer some of the questions;
I do take a multi-vitamin, condition after every wash, etc etc...
all recommendations gleaned from this board (and the web sites
of some of the longhair members).
August is my guess that all the little follicles should be
safely tucked inside a ponytail tie.
Great feedback everyone... I'll be patient, be patient... :-)

My theory is that the summer heat opens up your blood vessels which increases the blood supply to your hair, giving them more nutrition and oxygen. So it's very possible that hair grows faster in the summer. Happy growing.
I agree...

It's the same theory behind massaging your scalp to increase blood flow to the head and folicles. Lets see. Heat, expanding vessels, increased blood flow, hmmmm... makes sense to me! Peace!

The sun helps you to absorb some vitamins more.
And in the summer people tend to be more active, going outside and getting fresh air. Gets your blood flowing better.
