My longhaired swimming expience

This is a trivial post: you have been warned....
Yesterday I went swimming for the first time in over a year. This activity is something I find noteworthy since my hair was only beginning to enter the awkward state the last time I set foot in a swimming pool.
Anyway, I posted a message asking how longhaired individuals deal with the chlorine of pools several months ago, and now I have my own experience to speak about.
A week before I decided I'd get back into the habbit of swimming, I shopped around for a swim cap, as it seemed like a good investment. For the most part, a silicone cap will cost you around $13 at any typical sports store (I think that comes to around $7.50 US). At first I thought I'd draw unwanted attention to myself by wearing it (Seeing as how they are seldom worn, and those who do wear them tend to be competitive swimmers), but wearing it in public didn't seem too much more strange than wearing a bandana (which is what I've been using to keep my hair in place until I gets long enough that I can tie it all back).
Anyway, the cap did its job to keep the great majority of my hair from getting wet. Of course, there were the odd strands around the area of my ears that got wet since I couldn't get them well enough into the cap, but I made sure to safeguard against that (Or the unfortunate possibility of my cap slipping off!) by soaking conditioner into my hair before I applied the cap.
Anyway, if any of you feel like I did several months back in that you fear the havoc a pool's chlorine may wreck on your hair, I recommend going for a swim cap. It seems like an obvious enough solution, I realize, but I was concerned about whether or not it would make me stick out (Plus, there's the matter of my anxiety concerning all things aesthetic, but I'd rather not speak of that any more than I already have; long time readers already know enough about my problems!).

I had to swim every day in gym class for 6 weeks and I just conditioned real good after I swam. My hair still seems as healthy as it was.

I'm a life long nudist - card carrying now - a self evident birthright. So, I swim a lot. No cap. My hair is down to my tail end so I braid it before swimming or hot tubbing as a courtesy to the filter cleaning people.
I don't worry about the chlorine or the sun. Just after I'm done for the day I unbraid my hair, rinse it out well, and let it dry. Don't seem to have any problems other than more and more gray hairs...but then I'm old.

The last time that I went "swimming", it was 7 years ago and my hair was mid back. I remember feeling very strange because my hair was so heavy cause the hair was soaked in water, eventually when all the head is wet it`s alright. It was actually nice except of course for the attention of people who have never seen a guy with long hair in their lives. However, sea water does tangle hair.
