Your hair looks extremely cool. Especially that back-shot. For how long have you been growing it?

Your hair looks really great Tarikh but isn't it the height of summer over in the UK. When were these pictures taken?

TKS for your reply.
Just as a matter of interest, what is tolerance level of long haired men in Britain today -- especially in employment?
Also are you a student right now, otherwise what work do you do, if you'll pardon me asking?
As for me, well I'm a journalist with an IT publication in Malaysia and I have a 11 -- year hair growth which doesn't go much farther past my shoulders.\
As a matter of fact, when I saw your name I thought you were Malaysian or Indonesian since "Tarikh" is the Malay (perhaps Arabic as well) for "date" as in day, month, year (rather than the fruit).
Hey anyway, all the best and keep it growing.
Charles

Hi mate,
tarikh is a persian/arabic/turkish/malay name..and many more.
People in UK tolerate long hair. However, to be honest, you might get some stares and weird looks by "ethnic minorities", for instance when you go to the suburbs of a big city like London.
As you know, long hair for the moment in UK, represents a counterculture, I mean the fashion now is to wear spiky hair. So it`s your personality which will help you.
But as I said, long hair is not a problem to get a job. I worked at McDonalds with waist length hair tucked up in a hair.
Peace

Tks fr yr reply mate,
: tarikh is a persian/arabic/turkish/malay name..and many more.
Well it has middle eastern roots just like Abraham/Ibrahim, Mary/Mariam, Soloman/Suleiman, Shiela/Shailah, David/Daud and so on.
However, I thought that it was a Malay or Indonesian using "Tarikh" as a nickname and only realised later that it was another way of spelling the name "Tariq" as in Tariq Ali or Tariq Aziz.
: People in UK tolerate long hair. However, to be honest, you might get some stares and weird looks by "ethnic minorities", for instance when you go to the suburbs of a big city like London.
Indeed that's true and I faced a lot of resistance to having long hair from my parents especially and mainly because of whsat their peers would say and that was back in the late 60's and early 70's.
I was a student in Britain in the 1970's and I grew my hair long and was forced to have it cut when I visited for the summer holidays.
The argument going around then was that if one has long hair one will soon start taking drugs but it was precisely after being forced to cut my hair that I tried pot partly in rebellion.
However, long hair was socially accepted or tolerated in the UK even back then but almost all my British student friends had their hair cut when they got a job, including one who had hair down his back and now is a lecturer in the University of Salford where I studied.
Back then it seemed that only manual workers, factory workers, researchers who did not come into much contact with the general public as well as students, artists and musicians could have long hair but it wasn't on in the civil service or much of industry.
: As you know, long hair for the moment in UK, represents a counterculture, I mean the fashion now is to wear spiky hair. So it`s your personality which will help you.
Well back in the 60's and 70's it represented an anti-establishment, anti-war counterculture which perhaps is why the establishment hated it so much and still does to some extent.
: But as I said, long hair is not a problem to get a job. I worked at McDonalds with waist length hair tucked up in a hair.
How about a job in the government or corporate sector?
Asian society here is much more tolerant of long hair now. For instance I've been a journalist with the leading English-language daily writing about information technology for nearly 9 years now and I joined with a pony tail, still have a pony tail and on my floor there are four of us with long hair and a few more elsewhere in the organisation.
Mind you, I was in Brisbane, Australia for four days from the 28th to the 31st of last month and upon arrival there was an immigration officer with a pony tail and on my departure there another immigration offcer with a pony tail stamped my passport -- guess you still won't find that in Britain.
Also, while in Australia I met an Anglo-Indian general manager with an information technology company in India who had a pony tail -- albeit a short, stubby one.
On the subject of fashion, I have always felt that there are the major trends and the minor trends and I feel that long hair is a major trend which will hold its own over time.
I tend believe that there's a certain philosophy, belief, outlook or lifestyle that a longhair lives by which is gently non-conformist, defiant which is why many programmers in the open source software movement have long hair.
Having said that, I shouldn't make the mistake of idealising all longhairs which is a mistake as well.
Salaam
Charles

Awesome hair, the curl at the ends is particularly nice. Do you use any product to get the nice shine? Do you do anything special to change the curl of your hair? Thanks for posting your pictures. It is very inspiring.

No, it`s all natural, except that I use Garnier Fructis Conditioner, Fructis Shampoo and also I use "Wella" mousse conditioner for dry hair( got it for £1). And I regurlarly add a bit of hair oil in the mousse conditioner.
Otherwise, I dont use products for curling.

: Awesome hair, I am trying to grow my hair and for some reason it just seems to have stopped growing. I had really short hair about 2 months ago and it has grown to approximately 4 inches now but its not long enough to push behind my ear or even close to tying a pony tail. Can anything speed up the process. Please help.
