Long Hair Accident

Remmember the incident where the guy
died when his hair got caught in a
carnival ride? Some reports are now
surfacing that he didn't have long hair,
that that part was fabricated by the media.
Anyone on this board know whether that is
true?

No, I didn't. But when they mentioned his being 'scalped'
I assumed the story was correct.
But I suppose even moderately long hair could get caught somehow.
Maybe someone will know.

Just a rumor that he didn't have long hair.
WHy would anyone dig any further in to that case just to see if he did have long hair?

Apparently there was an eye witness who
came forward to say that the part
about the guy having long hair was
fabricated after someone from the
press was caught breaking into someones
house after they were thrown out of the
amusement park.
Any reports that anyone has heard to
verify this?

I found this on the net from someone who claims they were at the scene:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi, everyone.
I feel the need to post about this incident, because I just got back
from a trip to the Pacific Northwest and, well, I was there at that
fair when this happened. It was at the Island County Fair on Whidbey
Island just north of Seattle.
His hair did not get tangled, that was just a media invention because
the fair operations people refused to let the media vultures on the
grounds. Two hours after it happened, a KIRO reporter was caught
trying to get into the widow's trailer to interview her. What a ghoul.
He did not have long hair, his hair was as short as could be. The ride
was a loop the loop thing, just a 40 foot tall loop that a car goes
around and around on. He had knelt down to lubricate the track as the
ride was in progress and (as best as anyone can figure) his knee
buckled on him as the car came around, and instead of being able to
back away, he pitched forward and was caught by the car.
I'm sure everyone here has strong enough imaginations to figure out
what happened next. It was pretty horrific - there were children on
the ride who saw it happen, and everyone who worked the fair was
pretty traumatized.
I guess that's probably more info than anyone really wanted to hear,
but I'm so furious with the media vultures making up that story about
his hair that I just had to post. They made it sound like he was some
careless, irresponsible carney because that's so much more sensational
than the truth. Hope I didn't offend anyone.

I don't know if that story's true, Nick, but I once heard of a woman whose hair got caught in a conveyor belt (she worked for a shipping company) and it PULLED HER SCALP AND FACE OFF! Miraculously, she survived the incident, but they had to roll the skin back over her head and reattach it. People have also drowned after their hair got caught in pool and jacuzzi drains. The lesson here is to keep your long hair pinned up around machinery and drains.
