If you had to start over...

I have seen a few posts from guys that used to have long hair
and are starting over, or had damaged hair and started over,
undercuts and started over, etc.
If you had to start over, what would you start from?
I ask this only because my last cut was 'layered', so the
top layer of hair was left shorter than layers underneath
so although I have plenty of hair that extends beyond the
ponytail tie, I'm still waiting for that top layer to
catch up. Plus the tail looks a bit ragged.
Maybe it would have been better to start out with a
more even cut? I'm not sure - which is why I ask.

A short chile bowl, probably about eye length. That way, it would all be one length and trims wouldn't be often. Most guys - so they say - take much better care of their hair if they cut it and grow it out a second time. I see no reason to cut mine now, even if it were damaged.

I, for one, did not start out with an 'even' cut.
Many moons ago when I got my last trim, I asked the stylist to 'leave it a bit longer than usual'...and so she did.
That gave me a bit of a head start.
I WAS tempted at first ot 'even it out' but
chose to leave it alone and now my hair is behaving nicely for the most part.
Still have a few strands that do not quite make it to the tail...
but IF I had trimmed my hair, it would have taken it that much longer
to reach the tail...
Decisions....decisions....

Personally, if I had to start over, I would shave my head totally. I've never done that so it might be a learning experience to start from scratch.
