neatness

Hello all. I'm a college-aged guy I have thick, kind of wavy,(somewhat curly at the ends)hair almost to my shoulder blades. I usually wear it down. I like to wear it down and I need some info. on how I can best keep it looking neat. What can of brushes and/or combs should I use and what techniques in brushing or combing should I use? Sometimes it will get frizzy, especially a few days after I have shampooed it. Also how often should i comb and brush it? Should I brush it before going to bed and when i wake up? I'm avoiding maintenance trims because the person who cuts my hair has been untrustworthy years ago. After talking with her I have regained trust and she has done what i said for the past three years or so but i am concerned about going back to her because my mom and dad go to her too and they are not fond of my hair and will soetimes comuicate that to the stylist and i'm concerned that as my hair is getting longer my parents will get more hostile and "linda" will cut off more than I ask. So I guess I need to find someone else to trim it. Does anyone know of any trustwothy places were peopel specialize in long hair in the st louis area? I haven't had a trim in almost 14 months and it seem sfine but I'm sure in the next 5 or 6 months i'd want a half inch taken off, but i need to find the right person to do it!

I have wavy thick hair and was thinking about going to a stylist to get it evened out more (grew from like 1/2 inch top and sides) but then just did it myself... got the bottom layer in my fingers, felt for like 1/2 a inch before the end and trimmed... you think it would go terrible but it went well! If you do this be careful to check what your trimming 1st and do the same all over

extremely crazy! LOL! I couldn't imagine trying to cut my own hair myself. I would end up with a hacked up mess before I got done. Probably would have to start all over after such an attempt. I'll leave that up to the schooled professionals, but not for another year and a half to two years, maybe more. Brave soul, you are. Peace!

Well, if you can't trust yourself then who can you trust? He he he ... I don't trust those so-called professionals out there. There are way too many examples of how they screw people. I know, I know, there are a few good ones out there but sadly they're very scarce.

None the less, we are definitely worth the search! Keep looking until you are SURE you have found one of us (good ones).

AAAAARRRGH!!!! It's one of THEM!!!!! Just kidding. I haven't had someone else cutting my hair in a long time. I've been growing my hair for a little over 2 years now (it's now past shoulder length) but I don't have split ends.

That's what schooled professionals do--leave it up to other schooled professionals...you don't find us asking amateurs to cut our hair!

I find it interesting that many of the good professionals that I've seen so far all have average of even below average looking hair themselves. There's that famous one that I saw on BBC once and he looked like a cross between a parrot and a baboon. There's another one in Greece who's highly regarded by all the ladies and her hair was purple and looked kind of freaky. Why is that?

Must admit, I wouldn't have Will's guts, but (to BRGallagher) as a hairdresser, would you cut your own hair or wouldn't you trust yourself?
I've had pros screw up my hair bigstyle, and I'd had amateur friends make a better job sorting it out. The point, being with so many Good Bad and Indifferent hairdressers out there, how can we root out the good from bad without sacrificing our locks in the process?

With your hairtype you should only comb it after you've washed and conditioned it and added some stay in conditioner. Do it while it's still wet and do it carefully. If you encounter any tangles, gently take care of them with your hands and NOT the comb. Do not comb your hair when it's dry because it'll look frizzy. To make it look neat in the morning, use some water and detangle it with your fingers. Use some mousse to keep it under control.

Try this site:
http://www.virtualhaircare.com.au/virtual%20salon/your%20hair/thick.html
If you cant trust your stylist, then find someone else. Thisck hair requires a lot of work and personalization. Ask a stylist if the website does not help.
