TGIF eh guys? Anyhow I wanted to know what think of this type of long hairstyle? Personally I love that look and it's ultimately what I'm going for (Just need to the bangs to make the tie!) but I'd be interested whether you guys feel as against this cut as a lot of you seem to be against the mullet?

I think it's dumb. If you'r going to have long hair, let it all grow.

Though not my thing, it has a punk appeal, and looks kinda cool. But its a little extreme/hardcore for me. If your gonna have hair, you may as well have fun with it! Just consider the implications of having it that style, longhairs are persecuted enough at work just for having it long, let alone this look! But this will attract alot of attention, both negative and positive. Just be prepared for it, thats all. :)
Good luck, and let us know your decision, and don't base it on whether is popular, make sure YOU want it! :)
I think it looks very cool but

I don't know how it would be long term. I think an undercut a lot lower down might work on a long term basis.
This page shows my feeble attempt at a tie-back undercut from January 2002:

I think it's a wonderful, unique, type of hairstyle for a man; something that a woman would never think of wearing.
Not that I would want to wear it that way myself. But it's good to see creativity in action!

Very original and unique. Would look great! And, despite what some others may say, it STILL is Long Hair.......just not the whole head. But the main thing is to be yourself. If you like it LONG "This way," then wear it, enjoy and be happy! Good Luck. ps: How long do you plan on letting the Tail grow?

I have to agree! I had a pretty long (18-20 inch, probably) undercut, and loved it! When I saw this picture, it was like looking at a thin, shorter haired version of me 2 years ago! I only decided to grow out the sides of my hair a couple of years ago, when I realized that the top was getting too thin!
Also, it went really well with my look (skater/punk) and the girls (I was 15, so yes, they were girls, not women) loved it!

It looks interesting but I wouldn't shave off my long hair to get it. This type of mohawk hairstyle, in various lengths, is very popular here in Ottawa. The local university students wear this hairstyle with the "long" part from an inch to ponytail length and left to it's natural color and texture. There are also a number of "punkers" who live at the nearby shopping mall with the same hairstyle (males and females) however they tend to make the "long" part into tall spikes of various bright colors. It all looks good. They get a lot of credit from me for wearing such a daring hairstyle. It seems a shame to shave off a long head of hair for a look that has very little actual long hair. On the plus side, the style should be quite easy to grow from a short style. I have my doubts that the style will remain in fashion long enough for anyone to grow it as long as in the picture.

The undercut has been around for a long time. I knew a bunch of guys with shoulder length undercuts back when I was in grade 9, and that was about 7 years ago.

To each his own, and if that's what you want, go ahead.
But...I think it looks REALLY dumb. It's awful. Looks like $hit!
Either have long hair or don't. Period. Nuff said!

I'm a more uh, mature, woman, shall we say. I mention age as a way of explaining my point of view.
This style for young men (say in the 20s) was very popular, and I still see it around. Most of the time I think it looks rather poor as most people don't consider these parameters:
face shape
shape of skull
profile
overall walk/posture/presentation of self
I find that a younger lad with a stronger features looks OK with this, one who has a full shaped skull, but those who have a flatter skull on the backside it tends to be not as attractive. Also, if the person has a lack of chin, the profile can look somewhat odd.
This style reminds me of Samurai warriors and has its roots in some celtic styles from whenever ago.
This picture does not show everything that I consider relevant when evaluating how a "style" looks on a given individual. But then again, I have been told that my hair at knee length is "unbecoming!" So, the real opinion that matters is the wearers! I am sure there are chicks out there that dig it!! (or whoever your significant other might be)
By the way, don't use those kind of hair ties: they're awful for your hair and consider oiling those ends. heidi w. (from TLHS)
My 3 cents!

That's the reason why I like it! And also the reason why, at this stage in my (professional) life, I would never dare to have such a cut.

haha, last time i attempted to grow my hair out (god, i've tried 3 or 4 times now), it got to about 3 or 4 inches and I thought it'd be fun to cut it into a mowhawk. It was fun.. For about a week. Then I shaved it off and looked like an egg, that was in january and I havent cut it since and it's longer than it's ever been.. getting close to 5 inches and I'm going all the way this time because when i think back to all of the times i gave up, i was angry about it afterwards EVERY TIME. I want to grow it nice and long while I'm still young, beautiful and in college ;-) .. No offense to you geezers on the board! :-)

First of all; to each his own. Do whatever you feel like, since it's your body, etc, etc, etc.
[enable rant mode]
Having said that, let's move on to what I PERSONALLY think of that hairstyle.
[enable rant mode]
The mullet is probably the worst hairstyle ever and the undercut has to be a close second. Why on earth anyone would want to mutilate their long hair to achieve this utterly ridiculous look goes way beyond me. Arguably it looks even worse from behind then it does from the front because there's nothing there to destract one's eyes from the hair. Either let it all grow long or keep it short. The mullet is sometimes described as "business in the front, party in the back" How should the unercut be described; "party in the penthouse, business on the ground floor"?
[disable rant mode]
Just to make sure: keep in mind that I'm merely expressing my PERSONAL opinions!

I have to disagree. I had a mullet years ago, I liked it. But
I ended up getting rid of it and growing it all long. Why? Because
I couldn't get the concept through the thick skulls of
the hairstylist professionals.
I also had an undercut at one time, I got rid of it for
the same reason.
When these people go to hair styling school do they
take classes on how to ignore customers? Do they have
teachers teaching the fine art of doing exactly the opposite
of what the customer wants? Do these schools offer seminars
in how to screw the customer? Do they teach classes in how
to only cut hair the way the stylist wants to do it that
day instead of what the paying customer wants?

Thanks guys and gals...'respect your opinions! I still dig the look but I'm thinking of a lower undercut so I can tail it in the back of my head. Thing is my hair is so thick and out of control that undercuts seem to be the only real way of achieving something resembling long hair.
I'd want the tail to reach between my shoulder-blades eventually!
The weight...

...of your hair, when it gets long, will "flatten" it out. You'll be glad you had the thick hair. If you're like most people, the best way to "thin" and manage your hair is to just let it grow...no undercut, no use of thinning shears, etc. Good luck with whatever you do.
